  • Two lanes in each direction on I-95 will close at night to safely facilitate work activities over the next three weeks.

American Red Cross "Sound the Alarm" offers free smoke alarm installation May 3

Residents who would like a smoke alarm installed can register for a home fire safety  visit at www.soundthealarm.org/mnyn.  While the bulk of the installations will target the May 3 mobilization event, appointments can be arranged for other times as well.

EXTENDED: Apply by March 12 for the Civilian Complaint Review Board 

New Rochelle is accepting applications for the Civilian Complaint Review Board. Residents with a commitment to impartiality, fairness, transparency and public accountability are encouraged to apply.

Apply online, or download an application from our website and submit in person to the City Manager's Office, New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801. Applications will be accepted until March 12 at 4:30 PM.

DEC Grants Awarded

The City of New Rochelle has been awarded five NYS Department of Environmental Conservation grants to advance sustainability initiatives and improve the Glenwood Dam. Four Climate Smart Communities grants- the most awarded to any applicant- totaling $580K will be allocated to reducing food waste, improving fleet efficiency, and creating climate adaptation and organics management plans; and one Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) totaling $607,912 will be allocated to the Glenwood Dam Improvement Project

Additionally, a $115K grant to Westchester County will assist New Rochelle and eight other municipalities with hyper-local Climate Action Plans.

NRPD Promotions Ceremony

Eight members of the New Rochelle Police Department were promoted at a ceremony on Friday, March 7 at City Hall, celebrated by family, friends, City staff and officials.

Champions of Change Awards Ceremony

In celebration of Black History Month, The New Rochelle Youth Bureau's Youth Council and the NAACP NRHS Youth Chapter recently hosted their “Champions of Change” Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 28th at City Hall, Council Chambers. This inaugural event honored three youth and four adults for their outstanding contributions to the New Rochelle community. READ ON AND WATCH VIDEO

Unforget Poem

"Unforget" poem dedicated  in downtown New Rochelle

RXR, the master developer behind the redevelopment of Downtown New Rochelle, the City of New Rochelle and The Lincoln Park Conservancy held a community event honoring the City’s rich Black history and culture through the unveiling of a new plaque featuring a poem by poet and academic Rashaun Allen. Titled “Unforget,” the poem was created as a reflection of RXR’s commitment to recognizing the history of Enslaved people in New Rochelle. The dedication of the plaque in Clinton Park Plaza in Downtown New Rochelle ensures that current and future generations will remember and recognize the City’s former Enslaved population and the role they played in New Rochelle’s long history.

Camp N.O.W. for middle school students

The Youth Bureau offers Camp N.O.W. for students graduating 5th, 6th, or 7th grade. Located at New Rochelle High School. this four-hour camp program meets Monday - Thursday (3 trips on 3 Fridays - Additional fee for trips) and features a variety of sports, passive and active games, the arts, STEAM, and special pre-teen-themed activities.

Food Scrap Recycling Program

New Rochelle’s Food Scrap Recycling Program removes food scraps from the solid waste stream and offers residents a convenient way to recycle, contributing to a healthier environment. Residents can drop off food scraps at two designated locations:

  • Pinebrook Tennis Courts Parking Lot – 1-99 Albert Leonard Place
  • Outside D’Onofrio Park – Emmett Terrace

Starter kits and compostable bags are available for purchase at the DPW office in City Hall, 515 North Avenue. The kits are priced at $20.00 and include a 2-gallon countertop bin, a 6-gallon home storage and transportation bin, and a roll of 30 compostable bags (for the countertop bin).

Helpsy Textile Recycling offers home pickup 

The City of New Rochelle, in collaboration with Westchester County, is proud to announce their partnership with Helpsy to offer a free and easy home pickup clothing and textile recycling service for the local community.

Accepted items include clothing, footwear, accessories, linens, luggage and stuffed animalsVIEW FULL LIST.

Beechwood

Organic Waste Transfer Station permits now on sale

Commercial landscapers can now apply for permits and begin registering their vehicles. The site will open mid-March. The Beechwood Organic Waste Transfer Station is newly constructed and features a truck scale. Landscapers will only be allowed to dump yard waste after applying for and receiving a commercial dump permit from the City.

"Ways of Seeing" Photography Exhibit at the NRCA Rotunda Gallery

"Ways of Seeing," an exhibit at the NRCA Rotunda Gallery will run through March 28th. Featured are photographers Pari Dukovic, Sophy Holland, Eric Ogden, Allison Orenstein, Victoria Will and Lelanie Foster.

The NRCA Rotunda Gallery is located in New Rochelle City Hall at 515 North Avenue, and open to the public during regular business hours.

Vietnam Ceremony

National Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony- March 29

A commemoration of the End of the Vietnam War will be held at the Vietnam War Memorial in front of New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Ave on Saturday, March 29 at 12PM. In case of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the Council Chambers.
