North Avenue Bridge Phase 2 begins Tuesday, January 7 with new traffic pattern North Ave southbound closed at Lockwood Ave with detour to Memorial Hwy Northbound traffic reduced to one lane
The next phase of the North Avenue Bridge replacement project in New Rochelle will begin on Tuesday, January 7, with modified traffic patterns:
- North Avenue Southbound will be closed between Lockwood Avenue and Station Plaza North
- Southbound traffic on North Avenue will be detoured at Lockwood Avenue to Memorial Highway
- Northbound traffic on North Avenue will use a single lane on the newly completed section of the bridge
- Due to space constraints, vehicles with more than three axles will not be allowed through the construction zone; a truck detour is provided
- Pedestrian traffic will be maintained throughout the project using the existing walkway over I-95 connecting at Burling Lane and the train station
- The majority of construction will take place during the day; overhead work such as bridge deck and steel removal that requires highway lane closures will occur at night for the safety of workers and to limit impacts to traffic.
During this phase, the remaining portion of the bridge will be demolished and replaced as part of the $31.8 million project. Extended closures of the bridge will occur for demolition and steel installation. For more information and updates, visit the NYS Thruway Authority North Avenue Bridge Project page
