High Fire Danger Alert, Drought Watch in effect
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has declared a drought watch for 15 New York counties.With a high risk for fires in our area, open fire grilling is banned at City parks, and residents are asked to avoid outdoor burning.To protect water resources, homeowners in regions under drought watch are encouraged to voluntarily reduce outdoor water use and follow additional tips.

Veterans Day Observances
Join our veterans on November 11 at the following events: 11AM: Ceremony at American Legion Post 8, 112 North Ave., New Rochelle 4PM: Free special film presentation "Vietnam...Through my Lens" at the Pelham Picture House, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham.
REMINDER: City offices will be closed on Monday, November 11 but the Sanitation Bureau will follow a normal collection schedule next week Monday-Friday.

Lemke Park to be renamed for James C. Stowe
Please join us, Friday, November 15th as we celebrate the renaming of Lemke Park to James C. Stowe Park, honoring the life and legacy of the late District 3 Council Member. The park is located at the corner of Lemke Place and Rockland Place. A program and reception will follow in the City Hall Rotunda, 515 North Ave.

Mark your calendars for the 60th annual Thanksgiving Parade on Saturday, November 23. The New Rochelle Chamber is still accepting applications to march in the Parade! Club G.A.M.E. for middle schoolers starts Nov 13
Local youth are invited to join a vibrant community of gamers to enjoy a variety of popular gaming consoles while developing valuable skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Club G.A.M.E.- a collaboration of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau and the New Rochelle Public Library- will take place every week on Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Teen Room at the New Rochelle Public Library, located at 1 Library Plaza.

Thanksgiving Turkeys for those in need
The New Rochelle Youth Bureau will host its annual Turkey Giveaway on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. This event is available exclusively to New Rochelle residents. Supplies are limited, pre-registration required.

New Rochelle Youth Bureau Annual "Give a Gift"
The New Rochelle Youth Bureau’s Youth Council and Maffei Landscape Inc. are sponsoring their Annual Give a Gift which provides gifts to children of New Rochelle families in need during the holiday season. Last year, the Youth Bureau provided gifts to over 300 new Rochelle children in need. Donation deadline is December 6, 2024.

PSA: Social Security Office relocated for renovation
The Social Security office located at 85 Harrison St., New Rochelle, NY 10801 has temporarily closed for renovations. Beginning Tuesday, November 12, the New Rochelle Social Security office will provide limited in-person services at Suite 206, 140 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801.

Helpsy Textile Recycling offers home pickup
The City of New Rochelle, in collaboration with Westchester County, is proud to announce their partnership with Helpsy to offer a free and easy home pickup clothing and textile recycling service for the local community.
Accepted items include clothing, footwear, accessories, linens, luggage and stuffed animals. VIEW FULL LIST.
Pickups in New Rochelle will take place weekly by appointment on Saturdays between 7AM-5PM. Accommodations can be made for religious observances. Sign up at www.helpsy.co/newrochelleny or call 1-800-244-6350.

Recycle your pumpkins!
Food scraps are one of the largest components of trash sent to landfills and incinerators. However, food scraps are not trash, they are a resource that can be turned into useful compost.
To dispose of your pumpkin, remove candles, lights plastic decorations and paint and bring them to the drop-off locations at D'Onofrio Park or Pinebrook Tennis Center.
Remember, home composting kits are available for purchase at the DPW office.

Westchester Power Contract: Newly-eligible customers opt-out deadline Nov. 10
If you have recently opened a NEW Con Edison account, or have exited a contract with an Energy Service Company (ESCO), you should have recently received a letter from Sustainable Westchester advising you that you will be switched to Westchester Power’s new contract rates at the default supply option (100% renewable in New Rochelle), beginning with the billing cycle following November 30, 2024.
The opt-out period for Newly Eligible Customers concludes at the end of the day on Sunday November 10, 2024. Program participants can still opt-out after 11/10/2024; however, there will be a processing period of approximately 1-2 billing cycles.

Recycle Right App replaced
The Recycle Right app is being replaced by a new app, "Recycle Coach", a free mobile app from Westchester County that makes recycling and solid waste information more accessible. The City is in the process of transitioning to the new app so in the meantime, please refer to the DPW information booklet for collection information.

NRCA Rotunda Gallery Exhibit "Self" through 11/29
The NRCA Rotunda Gallery's new exhibit SELF explores the traditional self-portrait, which artists have always used to explore and practice technique, using themselves as handy and free models.The exhibit can be viewed at City Hall Monday-Friday during regular business hours. The public is welcome to an Artists' Reception on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5PM at City Hall, 515 North Avenue.

Fall Leaf collection continues
Fall leaves can be placed in biodegradable paper bags or open containers anytime for pickup. Yard waste will no longer be accepted.

PSA: No leaf piles!
Leaf piles in the street are NOT allowed and will not be collected. Leaf piles in streets block catch basins and create hazardous road conditions. It is against City Code for landscapers to blow leaves into the street or onto a City island.

NRPD launches Special Needs Registry program
The New Rochelle Police Department has launched a new Special Needs Registry, aimed at improving communications and safety for individuals with special needs in our community.This voluntary registry allows families and caregivers to provide valuable information on challenges like mobility, communication, or mental health issues that will be readily available to Police Officers responding to a call for service.

New Rochelle youth in grades 8-12 will have the opportunity to earn community service hours, plan and participate in events throughout the City of New Rochelle for teens, and have fun!

Street Tree Inventory underway
The City’s consultant Arbor Pro is using GPS and arborist expertise to perform mapping and data collection on New Rochelle’s urban street trees, with the ultimate purpose of creating a comprehensive forest management plan.
