City Council selects Wilfredo Melendez, PE as City Manager
The New Rochelle City Council announced their unanimous selection of Wilfredo Melendez, PE to be the next City Manager. The appointment caps a months-long executive recruitment effort that initially produced a field of nearly forty candidates from a dozen states.

Helpsy Textile Recycling home pickup begins 11/2
The City of New Rochelle, in collaboration with Westchester County, is proud to announce their partnership with Helpsy to offer a free and easy home pickup clothing and textile recycling service for the local community.
Pickups in New Rochelle will take place weekly by appointment on Saturdays between 7AM-5PM, starting November 2. Accommodations can be made for religious observances. Sign up at www.helpsy.co/newrochelleny or call 1-800-244-6350.

2025 Proposed Budget Released
New Rochelle Acting City Manager Wilfredo Melendez this week released his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025. In summary, the $275.3 million budget provides a balanced budget while maintaining service levels and continuing the City’s investment in critical infrastructure.
The City Council will conduct budget review meetings in November and December and hold a Public Hearing on December 3rd in advance of the adoption of a tax rate in December.

Early Voting through Sunday, November 3
Early voting is a nine day period where voters can vote in-person before Election Day in Westchester County. Early voting concludes Sunday, November 3.
There are two early voting sites in New Rochelle: -City Hall Annex, 90 Beaufort Place -United Methodist Church, 1200 North Ave Click on link below for poll hours.

Recycle your pumpkins!
Remember, food scraps are one of the largest components of trash sent to landfills and incinerators. However, food scraps are not trash, they are a resource that can be turned into useful compost.
To dispose of your pumpkin, remove candles, lights plastic decorations and paint and bring them to the drop-off locations at D'Onofrio Park or Pinebrook Tennis Center.
Home composting kits are available for purchase at the DPW office.

Recycle Right App sunsets Monday, Nov. 4
The Recycle Right app will be replaced by a new app, "Recycle Coach", a free mobile app from Westchester County that makes recycling and solid waste information more accessible. The City is in the process of transitioning to the new app so in the meantime, please refer to the DPW information booklet for collection information.

Westchester Power Contract: Newly-eligible customers opt-out deadline Nov. 10
If you have recently opened a NEW Con Edison account, or have exited a contract with an Energy Service Company (ESCO), you should have recently received a letter from Sustainable Westchester advising you that you will be switched to Westchester Power’s new contract rates at the default supply option (100% renewable in New Rochelle), beginning with the billing cycle following November 30, 2024.
The opt-out period for Newly Eligible Customers concludes at the end of the day on Sunday November 10, 2024. Program participants can still opt-out after 11/10/2024; however, there will be a processing period of approximately 1-2 billing cycles.

NRCA Rotunda Gallery Reception: "Self" through 11/29
The NRCA Rotunda Gallery's new exhibit SELF explores the traditional self-portrait, which artists have always used to explore and practice technique, using themselves as handy and free models.The exhibit can be viewed at City Hall Monday-Friday during regular business hours. The public is welcome to an Artists' Reception on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5PM at City Hall, 515 North Avenue.

Fall Leaf collection underway
Fall leaves can be placed in biodegradable paper bags or open containers anytime for pickup. Yard waste will no longer be accepted.

PSA: No leaf piles!
Leaf piles in the street are NOT allowed and will not be collected. Leaf piles in streets block catch basins and create hazardous road conditions. It is against City Code for landscapers to blow leaves into the street or onto a City island.

NRPD launches Special Needs Registry program
The New Rochelle Police Department has launched a new Special Needs Registry, aimed at improving communications and safety for individuals with special needs in our community.This voluntary registry allows families and caregivers to provide valuable information on challenges like mobility, communication, or mental health issues that will be readily available to Police Officers responding to a call for service.

Street Tree Inventory underway
The City’s consultant Arbor Pro is using GPS and arborist expertise to perform mapping and data collection on New Rochelle’s urban street trees, with the ultimate purpose of creating a comprehensive forest management plan.

Youth Council applications now open
