FLOOD MITIGATION MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR COUNCIL DISTRICTS

In an effort to address and mitigate flooding issues due to more frequent rain events and an aging stormwater infrastructure, the City of New Rochelle has established a programmatic approach which includes an enhanced stormwater maintenance program, resources for homeowners, design and construction of localized flood mitigation projects, and a 10-year implementation plan of capital mitigation projects throughout the City.

With the first round of mitigation projects identified for 2024 and scheduled for 2025, the Department of Public Works will continue District meetings through July per the revised schedule below.

Powerpoint presentations for each district will be available online after each meeting.

Catch basin cleaning

As part of the City's enhanced stormwater maintenance program, the Department of Public Works has augmented its stormwater and sanitary sewer maintenance staff and equipment for a proactive rather than a reactive maintenance approach to stormwater issues. Catch basin cleaning will occur more frequently, allowing us to re-direct preventive maintenance activities to flood prone areas.

Design and construction of smaller localized flood mitigation projects

Additionally, DPW will develop, design and implement smaller flood mitigation projects to address specific problem areas that may have not been captured in the Citywide study, such as extending drainage piping and reconstructing catch basins.
