1013-008 Annual NLVPD Safe Halloween Event

CITY OF NORTH LAS VEGAS

POLICE DEPARTMENT

NEWS RELEASE

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE, Joseph Chronister

SENDER: Sergeant Tim Bedwell, PIO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10/28/13

SUBJECT: 2013 Safe Halloween Event

North Las VegasNevada – On Thursday, October 31, 2013, the North Las Vegas Police Department is hosting its annual Safe Halloween event. Families are invited to celebrate from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Home Depot Parking Lot located at 1275 W. Craig Road. There will be live entertainment, vendor booths and free trick-or-treating for children 12 and under. This event is free to the public.

Each year, the Department partners with local businesses and community leaders to offer a safe place for families to celebrate Halloween. Last year, over 7,000 children attended the Safe Halloween event.

If parents choose to take their children on a traditional trick-or-treat, the Department suggests the following tips to ensure a safe, fun-filled night:

  •  Children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Adults should hold children by the hand.
  • Bright colored costumes should be worn.
  • Include reflective gear somewhere on the costume or choose accessories that light up (ie: shoes, glow sticks, etc.)
  • Take a flashlight and avoid dark alleys, walkways or homes with no lights.
  • NEVER enter a stranger's home.
  • Encourage children to cross the street at a corner or crosswalk and watch for cars!
  • Check the candy before children eat it.
  • Take a charged cell phone. In case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

The North Las Vegas Police Department wishes everyone a Happy "Safe" Halloween!
