SUBJECT: 2013 Safe Halloween Event
North Las Vegas, Nevada – On Thursday, October 31, 2013, the North Las Vegas Police Department is hosting its annual Safe Halloween event. Families are invited to celebrate from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Home Depot Parking Lot located at 1275 W. Craig Road. There will be live entertainment, vendor booths and free trick-or-treating for children 12 and under. This event is free to the public.
Each year, the Department partners with local businesses and community leaders to offer a safe place for families to celebrate Halloween. Last year, over 7,000 children attended the Safe Halloween event.
If parents choose to take their children on a traditional trick-or-treat, the Department suggests the following tips to ensure a safe, fun-filled night:
-
Children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
-
Adults should hold children by the hand.
-
Bright colored costumes should be worn.
-
Include reflective gear somewhere on the costume or choose accessories that light up (ie: shoes, glow sticks, etc.)
-
Take a flashlight and avoid dark alleys, walkways or homes with no lights.
-
NEVER enter a stranger's home.
-
Encourage children to cross the street at a corner or crosswalk and watch for cars!
-
Check the candy before children eat it.
-
Take a charged cell phone. In case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
The North Las Vegas Police Department wishes everyone a Happy "Safe" Halloween!
