TWO ALARM FIRE AT

NORTH LAS VEGAS GLASS RECYCLING PLANT

North Las Vegas, Nevada – The City of North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to 4910 Donovan for a two alarm glass recycling plant fire reported at 12:08 p.m., on Sunday, May 5, 2013.  Upon arrival at 12:13 p.m., the fire department found a warehouse and recycle yard with smoke and flames shooting approximately 50 feet in the air. The fire appears to have started in the yard and extended into the facility. The plant was open for business when the fire began. The employees were able to be evacuated before the arrival of the fire department. There were no reports of any injuries to occupants or firefighters.

The North Las Vegas and City of Las Vegas Fire Departments were on the scene battling the blaze, with 22 units and over 55 firefighting personnel.  The North Las Vegas aerial truck company was fighting the fire from above, along with firefighters utilizing hand lines on the ground. The major flames were knocked down within 35-40 minutes. The fire department had to utilize heavy equipment from the facility to access the deep seeded parts of the fire within the piles of glass recyclables and other materials. Firefighters remained on the scene until the incident was completely mitigated, which was approximately 7:58 p.m.

The cause has been determined to be electrical.  Estimated structural damage and financial loss are undetermined at this point in the investigation, which remains open.
