1112-003 Man Dies in Casino Shooting

INCIDENT: Man Dies in Casino Shooting - 12-20319

North Las Vegas, NV - At about 2:41 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2012, dispatch received 9-1-1 reports of a shooting at the Lucky Club Casino, 3227 Civic Center Drive. Responding officers were directed to a 31-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. The suspected shooter, 35-year-old Shonta Hammond, was being held by casino security. The victim was transported to UMC Trauma where he later died.

The preliminary investigation indicates Hammond shot the victim during a dispute inside the casino.  Detectives arrested Hammond for murder with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Las Vegas City Jail.

Hammond's booking photo is attached. Further information will be released as it becomes available. The victim's identity and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office after an autopsy and next of kin notifications have been completed.

This is the ninth homicide in North Las Vegas in 2012.
