SUBJECT: Home Invasion/Shooting Investigation
North Las Vegas, NV- Home invasion suspect hospitalized following a morning shooting.
At about 9:00 a.m., on October 18, 2012 dispatch received a report of a home invasion in the 1700 block of Victoria Terrace Avenue. When officers arrived, a 31-year-old woman reported that someone kicked her front door in while her and her two children, ages 5 years and 3 weeks old, were upstairs. The suspect fled, but evidence at the scene indicated that he was injured.
Almost two hours later, 34-year-old Shunta Hilliard, arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He reportedly was shot during an attempted home invasion in the 2400 block of Sunset Hills Court, about a half a mile from Victoria Terrace Avenue.
Preliminary investigation indicates Hilliard was allegedly trying to break into a home in the 2400 block of Sunset Hills Ct. The 66-year-old homeowner reportedly shot Hilliard prior to him making entry into the home. Hilliard fled on foot. Evidence suggests that Hilliard ran to the home on Victoria Terrace and forced his way into the house. He fled when he saw the homeowner and continued running eastbound to a business on Camino Al Norte and Ann Road where he called a third party to transport him to the hospital.
Hilliard has 4 felony warrants through the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He will remain hospitalized in serious condition in LVMPD’s custody for those warrants. It is unknown at this time what charges he may face relating to the home invasion on Victoria Terrace Ave. and the attempted home invasion on Sunset Hills Ct.
The 66-year-old shooter never called to report the incident to police. It is unknown at this time if he will face any charges related to the shooting.
This investigation continues.
