Taste of North Las Vegas: North Las Vegas 80th Anniversary Celebration
Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown
What a milestone! On May 2, we celebrated 80 years of North Las Vegas at Liberty Park with food trucks lining the street, 80s cover bands, a stunning car show and so much community pride - and we were honored to be recognized by Congressman Steven Horsford and Governor Joe Lombardo for this occasion. Since our incorporation in 1946, we have grown into the fastest growing city in Nevada and the largest minority majority community in the state, and none of that happens without neighbors, families and friends who show up for each other. I am honored to be part of this history, and even more excited about where we are headed. Seeing our community come together the way they did made it clear that the spirit of North Las Vegas is as strong as ever, and there is so much more to celebrate ahead.

Nevada State University Groundbreaking Event

Big things are happening in North Las Vegas, and April 28 was a day I will not forget. We broke ground on the Nevada State University campus right here in our city, and the energy was something else. This three-story, 30,000 square foot building will bring college classes, workforce training and student support services directly to the people who call North Las Vegas home. Education is the single greatest tool we have for changing lives, and now it is coming to our front door. This happened because the City, Nevada State University, Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Agora Realty, NV Energy, state leadership and a generous anonymous donor all believed that our community deserves access to opportunity. Doors are expected to open Fall 2027, and I can't wait to see our residents walk through them and enhance their education.

Councilwoman Ruth Garcia-Anderson - Ward 2
On April 27, I had the honor of speaking at the grand opening of Pearson Pines Affordable Housing Complex right here in Ward 2, and standing in that space knowing what it means to our seniors made it all worthwhile. Earlier this year I toured the property when units were just beginning to lease, and even then I could feel what it was going to become: a place with dignity, stability and peace. The City of North Las Vegas invested more than two million dollars in this project because our seniors deserve nothing less, and thanks to Nevada HAND, affordable rents are guaranteed for at least twenty years. Our seniors built this city, and it is only right that this city shows up for them. Congratulations to everyone who made Pearson Pines a reality.

I had the honor of leading our community on a bike ride through the streets of North Las Vegas on April 27. We set off from the North Central Area Command and rode together through our neighborhoods, side by side with our NLVPD officers. Public safety is built on relationships, not just response times, and that is what this event was all about. Getting out of the office and into the community, sharing a bike ride with residents and the men and women who serve them, that is how trust is built. I am grateful to everyone who showed up bright and early and made this such a memorable morning. This is what North Las Vegas looks like when we come together!

On April 29, I had the privilege of joining residents for our Community Clean Up event in partnership with Republic Services. Neighbors came together to place unwanted items at the curb while city crews worked to collect and dispose of them using dumpsters provided by Republic Services. I was glad to lend a hand helping discard items, painting walls and hydrants and speaking directly with residents about their needs while everyone enjoyed coffee and donuts. Thank you to Republic Services, North Las Vegas Police Department, Code Enforcement and Public Works for their dedication in making this event a success and helping keep our neighborhoods clean and connected. |

Honoring the Legacy of Ruby Duncan
On April 26, we lost a true giant of advocacy and justice. Throughout her life, Ruby fought tirelessly to uplift women, children and the Historic Westside community, leaving behind a legacy that Southern Nevada will feel for generations. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and to everyone whose life she touched. We are also deeply grateful for the example she set, showing all of us what it means to stand up for others. Her legacy of justice and compassion lives on in the generations of North Las Vegas students who will learn her story at Ruby Duncan Elementary School. Thank you, Ruby. You will not be forgotten.
