Hello Residents,
It is crazy to think that we are already into the second month of 2023! This year has proven to be one of growth here in the City of North Las Vegas as we celebrate grand openings, ribbon cuttings, and giving back to our community. I am looking forward to seeing what's to come, and am excited to share it all with you.
As this month goes on, I want to take a chance to honor February as Black History Month. I have always appreciated our City's diversity and the history we have made. It is important to me to acknowledge all of the history that lies here in our City, and I look forward to learning and connecting more with each of you.
Yours in service,
Councilman Scott Black
January Jamboree!
On January 11th, our Community Services and Engagement team hosted a January Jamboree, a pop-up services event for those in need at Tonopah Park. The event provided attendees with a variety of services and information, including cell phones, childcare, vaccines, housing assistance, medical and mental health services and more. In total, over 130 people received services and assistance.
We want to say a BIG thank you to our community partners that helped to make this event happen: Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Southern Nevada Health District, Touro University Nevada, the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Street Dogz, Vegas Cares LLC, the Clark County Economic Opportunity Board, Summit Mental Health, Nevada Health Centers, HELP of Southern Nevada, Humana, AHF Healthcare Center, Tzu Chi USA, The Center, Terrell Family Foundation, Hearts Alive Village, Behavioral Health Group, Silversummit Healthplan, Job Corps USA, Chicanos por la Causa Nevada, S.A.F.E. House and Legacy Counseling.
Arvato, Moen and groundbreakings… Oh my!
January was a month of new beginnings as Arvato officially opened a new warehouse, and Moen, Prologis and Layon Construction LLC broke ground on a new distribution center ALL in our City of North Las Vegas!
Arvato will be handling the logistics for supplying Meta's data centers, and for those who don’t know Meta is currently the social metaverse company behind Facebook, Instagram and more.
As for Moen, Prologis and Layton Construction, LLC, the 680,314 square-foot facility slated to open in 2024 will serve as a distribution center for Moen, one of the largest faucet and fixtures brands in North America.
As Mayor Goynes-Brown said best, “Our City is committed to creating a vibrant, economically diverse community and is leading Southern Nevada in capital investment and development.”
Thank you Arvato, Meta, Moen, Prologis and Layton Construction LLC for choosing the City of North Las Vegas as your home!
Cocktails and Conversations with the Vegas Chamber of Commerce!
On January 17, myself and other members of City Council joined Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown at the Aliante Casino & Hotel to meet with the Vegas Chamber of Commerce to have a conversation on today’s economy. The event, titled “Cocktails and Conversations,” is part of a fundraising event series.
It was a wonderful night getting to talk to so many Vegas Chamber members and connecting on ideas for the future of our cities in Southern Nevada. Thank you to the Vegas Chamber and Aliante Casino & Hotel for hosting this fabulous event.
Boxabl Momentum!
This month, the City of North Las Vegas celebrated the completion of Boxabl's SECOND factory in less than TWO YEARS!
Boxabl is adding to their current factory space located in the City of North Las Vegas with a new 130,000 square foot building, bringing their total footprint to 170,000 square feet! This expansion is an important step in the growth of Boxabl and its ability to build quality, affordable homes in less time and in a more energy efficient manner.
The second factory will increase Boxabl’s headcount to 600 and enable the company to manufacture 5,000 housing units annually, roughly 10 units per day.
“The Boxabl mission is to significantly lower the cost of homeownership for everyone. Obsessively designed to the highest standards of quality, strength, and sustainability to last for generations.” - Boxabl
Factory tours are available now!
Vegas Valley Police Graduation!
The City of North Las Vegas Police Department was beyond thrilled to celebrate the graduation of 16 City of North Las Vegas recruits from the Vegas Valley Police Academy! The newly-minted police officers will undergo thorough field training and evaluation for the next six to eight months and will serve constituents from two City of North Las Vegas police stations.
Graduates completed an intense six-month academy that introduced them to the basics of policing. The academy establishes qualifications, training and standards for Nevada’s peace officers; provides instruction on local, state, and federal laws; develops leadership skills; and emphasizes customer service and community engagement.
Congratulations, grads! We are so honored to be your home away from home and can't thank you enough for choosing to protect our City.

Tree Memorial Dedication
On January 29 the City of North Las Vegas dedicated a tree and memorial plaque to commemorate the lives lost in the terrible accident that took place one year ago and claimed the lives of a City of North Las Vegas family as well as two others. City leaders, affected family members, crash survivors and the community gathered to honor the space as a place where family and friends can enjoy a peaceful place of remembrance for years to come.
