Hello Residents,
It's a new year with many new opportunities to celebrate our City! I want to take a moment to highlight a great event we have coming up: the CNLV Job Fair on February 9th! I would love to see more community faces join our team, so don't miss this opportunity! I also want to remind everyone of the volunteer opportunity we have on the 26th, the Southern Nevada Homeless Census Count.
December was a great month of giving and I am proud to share all of what the City of North Las Vegas has been up to!
I am grateful to be serving Ward 3 for another year, and can't wait to see all we can achieve and accomplish together.
Yours in service,
Councilman Scott Black
Shop with a Cop!
On December 14th at 6 a.m., over fifty North Las Vegas Police Officers took 45 children, including at-risk youth and those experiencing medical hardships, to Target in North Las Vegas to pick out toys, clothes and more for their 22nd annual Shop With a Cop event.
The morning started with a surprise visit from Santa and City of North Las Vegas leadership, including City Manager Dr. Ryann Juden, Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt and Councilman Cherchio and myself!
Thank you to our sponsors who made this event possible: Candlelighters, Positively Kids, Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, ProCare Hospice and Clark County School District.
Not-so-MICRO Grants!
It was an absolute honor to award $265K in micro grants to schools across the City at our council meeting on Wednesday, December 21. These funds, made possible through the federal pandemic relief funds, were designated to programs that could help boost student and teacher achievement.
We received more than 50 applications and awarded 31 projects to teachers and administrators, in addition to funding uniforms and instruments for six North Las Vegas-area school mariachi programs. Micro grants were awarded in the amounts of $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000 per project. It was the perfect holiday gift to be able to provide much needed funding to these schools and programs to help our students and teachers lead a successful educational journey.
Thank you to our Community Services and Engagement team for administering this program, and to our educators who fight for a better education.

Holiday Toy Giveaway
The City of North Las Vegas hosted a Holiday Toy Giveaway at Liberty Park December 17. Council members, City staff and more than 80 community volunteers participated Saturday morning by giving out free toys to children.
In addition to being able to pick out their own toys, the children and their families were treated to cupcakes and cookies, tunes spun by Fiesta! 98.1FM, live Christmas singing and the chance to meet and snap a photo with Santa with a staged backdrop for a lovely memory.
The season’s good cheer was on full display with impromptu frisbee and soccer games breaking out on Liberty Park’s lawn between the kids, NLV Police Department and City staff. The event was made possible by community partners: Reignited Worship Center, NaphCare, Reignited Women International and Toys for Tots.
2022-2 Fire Recruitment Graduation!
It was an absolute privilege to watch the 2022-2 fire academy recruits take the stage to officially graduate and join our great team here in North Las Vegas! These 16 recruits went through the 20-week fire academy and came out as successful, functioning firefighters ready to take on the responsibility of keeping our City safe. This graduation was extra special being that this recruit class are the stars of the North Las Vegas Fire Department online web series that has been airing nationally through the First Responder Network.
We are so proud and look forward to watching each of them thrive throughout their careers. We wish all of them the best of luck, and thank them for choosing the fire stations of the City of North Las Vegas as their home away from home.

Breakfast with Santa
The City of North Las Vegas got a special visit at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center on December 17 … Santa and his elves joined rec center staff and volunteers of Renaissance Church in serving up games, caroling, arts and crafts and of course PANCAKES to local children and their families! Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived with special escorts from the NLV Fire Department and each child in attendance was able to visit the Silver Mesa Rec Center Toy Store and pick out a brand, new toy.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the season; it was great to see so many smiling faces, and serve up food for all to enjoy together.
Business of the Month: January 2023!
Last week, I was proud to be apart of the celebration of local business, Bob's Market, located in Ward 4 as the first Business of the Month this year!
Bob's Market is playing an important role in our community by providing food and goods to residents who otherwise would not have easy access to a supermarket. This is so important to our area’s families and seniors. Bob's Market is a beloved business in the community and takes great care of all customers that enter their store!
Thank you for all you do, and I look forward to watching your continued success and maintaining our partnership!
When Life Gives You Lemons...
North Las Vegas City Council had the honor of recognizing six-year-old Henry Williams for his charitable donation of over $800 to the American Red Cross Foundation. This donation came from Henry's very own lemonade stand that he started after watching an episode of Sesame Street in which the characters started their own stand.
Henry's lemonade stand raised hundreds of dollars that his family then matched and donated to the charity of Henry's choice, the American Red Cross Foundation.
Henry sets a great example that kindness and giving back has no age limit, and we cannot wait to see the amazing things he will do in the future!
