Homicide Investigation
North Las Vegas, NV - An 11-year-old girl lost her life late last night after a shooting in North Las Vegas.
On November 1, 2018, at about 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 6700 block of Courtney Michelle Street in reference to gunshots in the area. Officers arrived and located the 11-year-old female suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside a residence. Medical personnel arrived and transported the juvenile to UMC Trauma where she succumbed to her injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates a silver 2007 Nissan Altima, occupied with multiple suspects, came into the area of the victim's residence. Multiple subjects exited the vehicle and approached the victim's home where multiple gunshots were fired into the residence. Inside the home, along with the victim, was a 33-year-old male, a 30-year-old female, a 14-year-old female, and a 6-year-old female. Only one person was injured in the shooting.
As the suspects were leaving, a nearby neighbor who witnessed the shooting felt a danger to himself and the community and subsequently opened fire on the subjects. One of the occupants of the Nissan, a 19-year-old male, was struck by this gunfire as they continued to flee. It should be noted that the neighbor who shot at the suspects is fully cooperating with the investigation and is not facing any charges at this time.
Patrol officers later located the suspect vehicle, along with at least one firearm, near El Campo Grande Avenue and Commerce Street. Officers found two occupants, a 17-year-old male and the 19-year-old male. Medical personnel arrived and transported the 19-year-old male to UMC Trauma where he remains with life threatening injuries. The 17-year-old male was subsequently arrested and booked at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center for murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder with a deadly weapon, and four counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Due to his age, the juvenile suspect will be identified at a later date.
Detectives have reason to believe that the shooting was gang related and that the victim's residence was the unintended target. There are still multiple suspects outstanding in this case and detectives are not prepared to release that information at this time.
The Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the decedent, and cause and manner of death, after the proper notification to next of kin.
The North Las Vegas Police Department offers its heartfelt condolences to the family of the little girl who was killed. We can only imagine the heartache they are feeling as they mourn the loss of a loved one.
