Civic leader flight at Nellis Air Force Base

Last month, I had an amazing opportunity to join Nellis Air Force Base for a civic leader flight. I was able to hear about all of the exciting things going on at the base and see firsthand the vital training that takes place daily. We flew over the National Test and Training Range in a remote area of the valley. This location is unique in its airspace volume, infrastructure and location, which enables the military to test and do training activities that cannot be done in other national training areas. Thank you to the men and women who coordinated this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Honoring our VIPS

Thank you to all of our wonderful VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) for all of the work they do for our city!

We recently had the pleasure of honoring this fine group with a City Council proclamation for their assistance after the 1 October tragedy. They are a valuable asset to our North Las Vegas Police Department and to all of our citizens, and we appreciate them greatly.

North Las Vegas Police Department Citizens' Academy

Please join us for the upcoming North Las Vegas Police Department Citizens' Academy, which will be March 28 through May 30 at our Northwest Area Command, 3755 W. Washburn Road, North Las Vegas.

The Citizens' Academy is a 10-week program designed to provide North Las Vegas residents firsthand information about how the police department operates. Participation in the academy requires a commitment of one night a week for the 10-week period. The classes are Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The academy aims to increase understanding between citizens and the police through education. Instructors acquaint residents with law enforcement's role in the criminal justice system and outline the tasks police officers face in their daily work. With better understanding, it becomes easier for police and citizens to find realistic solutions to neighborhood problems.
