BBQ for a good cause
Pigs for the
Kids hosted its annual fundraising event last month at Craig Ranch Regional Park to benefit three children’s charities aiding in the fight against cancer. The event was a huge success! The festivities included a BBQ festival and competition,
live music and children's games. All of
the proceeds benefited children and families fighting childhood
cancer. We were thrilled to host such a
wonderful event for such an important cause!
Thank you to
Mayor Pro Tempore Richard Cherchio for inviting me to the Nellis/Creech
Military and Veterans Appreciation Day event at Craig Ranch Regional Park. The annual event honors the valley’s service
members, veterans and first responders. I was honored to meet so many service
men and women, and thank them for their service to our community and our
country.
I was proud to take part in recent discussions with
community leaders about the potential impacts to the health of our residents
and the wellbeing of our city's children should the Environmental Protection
Agency make budget cuts to air and water quality programs. We know that
residents are more likely to be impacted by respiratory issues as a result of
pollutants, and proposed EPA cuts will significantly impact air and water
quality programs here in Nevada. I hope you will join me in the effort to have our voices be heard. Please let your federal representatives know
that you value clean air and water!
The annual Safety Officers Recognition (SOAR) Awards Ceremony was held last month at Las Vegas City Hall. I am proud to say that North Las Vegas Police Officer Shane Allen and North Las Vegas Fire Department Captain Dean Campbell, Engineer Ryan Aughenbaugh, Paramedic/Firefighter Michael Zimmermann and Firefighter Joseph Meyer were recognized for their tremendous community service accomplishments.
Officer Allen has spent countless hours volunteering his time working with young people in our community and currently leads our future generation of officers in the Police Department's Explorer Program.
Our Fire Department unit was recognized for their fast-thinking actions while responding to an emergency situation.
Congratulations to Officer Allen, the fire unit and all of the award recipients. Your work in this community does not go unnoticed!
Hats off to all of the Best of the Best for Vulnerable Road User Safety award winners, especially North Las Vegas Police Officers Tim Milligan and Micheal "Sully" Sullivan.
Officer Milligan was named Fatal Accident Reconstruction Specialist Officer of the Year, and Officer Sully received an award for his work educating young children and students about crosswalk safety.
A well-deserved honor for two amazing officers!
