Meet our new firefighters

Nineteen new North Las Vegas firefighters hit the streets this month after graduating from the North Las Vegas Fire Academy. I’m proud to say this was one of the biggest classes we have ever graduated!

The new firefighters and firefighter/paramedics completed 16 weeks of intensive training and now are out in our community helping to keep all of our residents and businesses safe and secure.

To all of the graduates, congratulations! We are proud of you!

Celebrating our first responders

During a recent awards ceremony, the City and Police Department had the honor of recognizing dozens of men and women in uniform who keep us safe and make North Las Vegas a great place to live and do business.

A total of 80 awards were presented to North Las Vegas police officers, first responders, civilian employees and volunteers.

The ceremony was an opportunity for us to highlight the extraordinary actions of so many of our employees, who go above and beyond to save lives, be heroes and selflessly give of themselves for others.

A big congratulations to all of the award recipients. We appreciate you!

Food for a great cause

This week, I had the pleasure of volunteering at McDonald's as part of the Eggs For Education program, a wonderful fundraising effort for our community

The North Las Vegas McDonald's at 1408 W. Craig Road, along with others, will donate $1 for every Egg McMuffin or Sausage-Egg McMuffin purchased this week to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas scholarship program.

Over the past six years, local McDonald's owner/operators have raised more than $320,000 with this annual event. Thank you, Southern Nevada McDonald's franchisees, for being such great community partners!

Honoring a fallen hero

The City’s annual Raul Elizondo Day is always a bittersweet one. On the one hand, we remember a fallen hero taken from us far too soon. On the other, we get to spend the day with our wonderful North Las Vegas students, who show so much love and respect for our officers and this great community.

North Las Vegas Officer Raul Elizondo was killed in 1995 in the line of duty, but his legacy lives on in his namesake school, where our fantastic police officers have formed a strong bond with students. On March 8, they all came together once again for breakfast and lunch, a memorial ceremony, a parade and story time in the classroom.

Another business expansion!

Congratulations to Cummins Inc. on the grand opening of its new 50,000 square foot service facility in North Las Vegas! The grand opening was a blast, with special guest NASCAR superstar Jimmie Johnson.

Cummins’ expansion to its new facility at 2807 E. Alexander Road adds more than $11 million of investment in our community and is proof that our easy business processes are helping companies succeed, grow and create jobs.

The day after the grand opening, Cummins hosted a job fair to hire for several technician and other positions.
