New North Las Vegas welcome sign, adopted by local elementary school students, to be unveiled

WHAT: North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee and students from Tom Williams Elementary School will unveil a new sign to welcome residents and visitors to the City of North Las Vegas.

WHEN: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29

WHERE: Northwest corner of North Pecos Road and East Owens Avenue, North Las Vegas

DETAILS: Earlier this year, the students of Tom Williams Elementary School approached Mayor John Lee about adopting the "Welcome to North Las Vegas" sign located near their school. The decades-old sign had fallen into disrepair due to graffiti and vandalism. Impressed by the students' civic pride and initiative, city officials decided to refurbish the sign and landscape the surrounding area. On Tuesday, the sign will be officially unveiled and declared adopted by the students of Tom Williams Elementary School. Moving forward, the pupils will help the city maintain the corner by pulling weeds and cleaning litter.

MORE: Mayor Lee, Tom Williams Elementary students and Clark County School District staff will be available for interviews about the beautification project. Photos of the old sign are available by request.
