North Las Vegas companies to host student tours in honor of National Manufacturing Day

North Las Vegas, Nevada — The City of North Las Vegas and several local manufacturing companies will host Clark County middle and high school students for tours and educational workshops this week in honor of National Manufacturing Day. The goal is to expose the next generation to potential career opportunities and educate them about available, high-skill, local jobs.

Participating North Las Vegas companies include Faraday Future, an electric car manufacturer; Clearwater Paper, a soft tissue manufacturer; and Metl-Span, a manufacturer of insulated building products.

More than 50 students from Bridger Middle School and Cimarron-Memorial High School are expected to participate.

Concurrent tours will take place at Clearwater Paper and North Las Vegas City Hall starting 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. Tours of Metl-Span will take place Friday, Oct. 7.

Manufacturing has been a key component of the City of North Las Vegas’ monumental recovery from the Great Recession, with projects such as Faraday Future's $1 billion manufacturing plant that will pump billions into the Southern Nevada economy and create thousands of jobs for local residents. Faraday Future alone is expected to raise Clark County’s gross regional product by more than 4 percent.

More than 300 Clark County School District students are slated to participate in Manufacturing Day activities this week across the Las Vegas Valley in conjunction with the Clark County School District’s Career and Technical Education program. As a continuation of National Manufacturing Day, the Clark County School District and the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance have partnered to offer the FutuReady Tour program throughout the 2016-17 school year to introduce local industries to students in order to establish workforce pipeline opportunities.

Manufacturing Day began in 2012 with 200 participating companies. It since has spread to include 1,000-plus events across 50 states, Puerto Rico and Tijuana, Mexico.
