Pedestrian Safety Urged by Law Enforcement as School Year Begins
North Las Vegas, Nevada – With the 2016-2017 school session set to begin, law enforcement statewide will be working diligently with motorists and pedestrians to share the streets responsibly. In an effort to reduce pedestrian fatalities, the North Las Vegas Police Department will be Joining Forces to enforce pedestrian and right away laws from Aug 18th thru Aug 29th, 2016. NLVPD events have been scheduled for August 26th and August 29th running from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on both days.
NHTSA data shows almost 1 in 5 (21%) of the children 10 to 15 years old killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians, and almost 1 in 5 (19%) of those 65 and older were pedestrians. More than half (62%) of all pedestrian fatalities were adults 21 to 64.
