A message from Councilman Cherchio
Welcome to the Ward 4 Update. During the past few months, North Las Vegas has been the epicenter of exciting announcements and groundbreakings. It is my hope that this newsletter will keep you informed of important news and events in Ward 4 and around our City.
Join me on April 18, 2016, 9:30 am for Coffee with the Councilman at the Skyview YMCA located at 3050 E. Centennial Parkway in North Las Vegas.

I had the pleasure of attending two ground breaking events on March 2nd and I am pleased to welcome Cracker Barrel Old Country Store to the City of North Las Vegas.
The North Las Vegas Cracker Barrel is located in Mayor Pro Tem Pamela Goynes-Brown's Ward 2, on E. Craig, just east of Losee Road. The restaurant will be more than 10,000 sq. feet and will bring 175 new jobs to North Las Vegas. Opening day is scheduled for July 25, 2016.
I also attended the ground breaking for the Dignity Health St. Rose Dominican Hospital which will be located on the corner of Craig Road and Camino Al Norte in Ward 4. This is the first Dignity Health medical facility in North Las Vegas and is one of four St. Rose hospitals in Southern Nevada. The North Las Vegas campus will include a comprehensive emergency department, in-patient wing, imaging and quick-access lab services.
I'm excited to announce the expansion of N. 5th Street to Cheyenne Avenue, scheduled for completion in the next 60 days. N. 5th Street will eventually be a main traffic arterial linking downtown to the Villages at Tule Springs.
During the N. 5th Street event, Mayor John Lee announced that RC Farms will be selling their 153 acre pig farm and relocating, paving the way for mixed-use development in this prime location.
Congratulations to Cummins Rocky Mountain. I attended their groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, March 15. Currently located in Councilman Isaac Barron's Ward 1, on Losee Road, Cummins Rocky Mountain will construct a new 50,000+ sq ft retail/repair, maintenance facility on 7.5 acres. Cummins Rocky Mountain is the exclusive distribution of Cummins Engine and Cummins Power Generation products for the Rocky Mountain, Inter-mountain and Southwest region.
In order to reduce the impact of squatters on our North Las Vegas neighborhoods the City through the direction of Councilwoman Anita Wood developed a Squatter's Task Force. Using the City's foreclosure database we are now able to compare addresses with utility requests as an extra measure to protect vacant properties from "unauthorized" residents.
If you notice squatters in your neighborhood call the North Las Vegas Code Enforcement line at (702) 633-1677 and leave a message with the property address.

The North Las Vegas Police Department held the 16th Annual Raul Elizondo Day at Elizondo Elementary School on Wednesday, March 9th.
Gloria and I supported the event as members of Volunteers in Police Service, Citizen's Patrol. Police officers from across Southern Nevada were in attendance, along with students for a day of events that included a flag raising ceremony, classroom activities, and honor parade.
Officer Raul Elizondo, was killed in the line of duty in 1995. He is remembered for his dedication to the North Las Vegas Community.

Thank you to the the North Las Vegas Fire Department for hosting an open house at Fire Station 56 (Aliante and Elkhorn) on Saturday, February 13, 2016.
More than 300 of our neighbors attended and enjoyed a free pancake breakfast, station tours and participated in a variety of safety demonstrations. The event was a huge success and included a special fly in by Mercy Air.
