Media Invited To Annual Emergency Training Exercise
Exercise Will Feature Responders Interacting with Actors In An Emergency Scenario
Media are invited to attend the annual Southern Nevada Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) exercise, which will put team members and volunteers into realistic emergency situations to practice their skills.
The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Southwest Gas Training Center, 1060 Alper Center Drive in Henderson.
The exercise will be held in a rodeo format, with team members and volunteers divided into teams of four. Each team will begin the exercise at a different station, each focusing on a different skill including:
- fire suppression
- medical operations
- search and rescue/triage
- using the cribbing technique to remove heavy debris from disaster sites to rescue trapped victims
Each team will spend 30-40 minutes practicing at their station before rotating to another station.
The city of Las Vegas administers the Southern Nevada CERT program in coordination with Clark County and the cities of Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite. Following a major disaster, many factors may prevent residents from receiving emergency services they have come to expect at a moment's notice through dialing 911. People will have to rely on each other to help to meet their immediate lifesaving and life-sustaining needs. The CERT team trains residents so that they can fill these gaps and help those in need.
