Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Push-In Ceremony Oct. 14
LVFR Welcomes A New Fire Engine To Station 2 At 9 A.M.
The public is invited to join Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, Ward 1 Councilman Brian Knudsen, and Fire Chief Fernando Gray for a push-in ceremony for a new engine on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 9 a.m. The event will take place at Station 2, located at 900 S. Durango Drive.
Chaplains will bless the new emergency unit, and then firefighters and willing community members will join to push the new engine into the bay. This event, a celebration of our community and its safety, is free and open to all.
The push-in ceremony, a deeply significant tradition in the fire service, began in the 1800s, when horse-drawn fire apparatus limited how we could station. Firefighters would disconnect the horses and manually push the engine into the bay. This enduring tradition, which we proudly uphold today, is a profound mark of respect and honor as we introduce new apparatus into service.
This is an opportunity for community members to meet their local firefighters, tour the station and learn about fire safety.
Editor's Note: On-site interviews will be available to media outlets.
