Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Push-In Ceremony Oct. 10

LVFR Welcomes A New Fire Engine To Station 43 At 9 A.M.

The public is invited to join Mayor Shelley Berkley, Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong and Fire Chief Fernando Gray for an open house, pancake breakfast and push-in ceremony for a new engine on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. The even will take place at Station 43, located at 6420 Smoke Ranch Road.

Chaplains will bless the new emergency unit, and then firefighters and willing community members will join to push the new truck into the bay. This event, a celebration of our community and its safety, is free and open to all.

The push-in ceremony, a deeply significant tradition in the fire service, began in the 1800s, when the limitations of horse-drawn fire apparatus required a unique method of stationing. Firefighters would disconnect the horses and manually push the engine into the bay. This enduring tradition, which we proudly uphold today, is a profound mark of respect and honor as we introduce new apparatus into service.

After the ceremony, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue will host an open house at the station, including a free pancake breakfast for attendees. This is an opportunity for community members to meet their local firefighters, tour the station and learn about fire safety.

Editor's Note: On-site interviews will be available to media outlets.
