City Of Las Vegas Celebrates Opening Of New Café And Workforce Training Program At The Historic Westside School

Stew’s Stix Café To Be Open For Breakfast And Lunch

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley and Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong will join Chef Richard Stewart to open a new café in the Historic Westside Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 9:30 a.m. Stew’s Stix Café is located within the Historic Westside School campus at 330 W. Washington Ave.

The new café will be open Monday through Friday and will serve breakfast and lunch. It is also part of a workforce training program that is a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Chef Stewart. The café creates opportunities for individuals to gain exposure to basic culinary skills, hospitality, customer service and the expectations of a working commercial kitchen. This program connects training to a real-world work environment.

Chef Robert “Chef Stew” Stewart is a Baltimore-born chef, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author and television personality whose career has taken him from learning to cook in his grandmother’s kitchen to competing nationally and winning the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen.”

The café also brings a new restaurant to the Historic Westside. It is near the new shareWESTSIDE apartments and the Westside Education and Training Center where students are learning new occupations through classes from the College of Southern Nevada.
