Are You Using The Citywide Master Calendar To Scheule Events?
To help improve citywide coordination, awareness and planning, please invite the CLV Master Calendar in Outlook when scheduling significant city events and activities.
The CLV Master Calendar provides a centralized view of upcoming events across departments. Keeping this calendar current helps identify scheduling conflicts, supports leadership and operational planning, and ensures departments are aware of activities that may require shared resources or coordination.
Please add the following types of events:
- Annual citywide or department-wide events
- Large-scale or high-profile events
- Community events and public programs
- One-time events with broad interest or operational impact
- Events involving multiple departments or city facilities
- Events to which the mayor, City Council members, city manager, executive leadership, or other elected officials will be invited
- Events that may affect parking, traffic, security, staffing, communications or other city operations
To add an event:
- Within Outlook, when scheduling your event, invite the following participant: CLV Master Calendar.
- Create the event on the appropriate date and include:
- Event name
- Date and actual start/end times (do not include setup/tear down times)
- Location
- Hosting department or division
- Brief description, when helpful
- Primary staff contact
- Whether the event is tentative or confirmed
For annual events, create a recurring calendar entry when appropriate.
Update the entry promptly if the date, time, location, or event status changes, and remove canceled events.
Please add events as early as possible, even if some details are still tentative, and update the entry as planning progresses. The CLV Master Calendar is intended as a citywide planning and awareness tool; it does not replace formal invitations, facility reservations, special event permits, elected-official scheduling requests or other required approval processes.
Thank you for helping us maintain a complete and reliable view of citywide events. Please also share this guidance with staff in your department or division who regularly coordinate events or manage calendars. Contact Jasmine Freeman at jafreeman@lasvegasnevada.gov if you have any questions about the calendar or need viewing access.
Leaders Complete SmartLab Champions Training
The Office of Strategic Services would like to congratulate the latest group of city leaders to complete SmartLab’s Champions course: Marja Bigas, Mouse Skiba, Diana Paul, Jonathan Meza and Carolyn Levering. These leaders learned how to create a culture of continuous improvement in their work area and be a champion for their staff! Next, they look to complete their Champions certification by demonstrating the skills they learned over a three-month capstone project.
Registration is open now for the next Champions course beginning in October. Anyone who has completed White Belt training and has direct reports is eligible to attend. Learn more and register by visiting the SmartLab Training Schedule.
Elevator Not Working Or Having Issues?
The City Hall elevators were built in 2012, and while that makes them 14 years old, in elevator years, that’s pretty young. They get inspected and given routine preventative maintenance annually. Each elevator is equipped with a telephone communication system and camera so that in the event of an incident, staff can easily reach out for help. The phone calls a 24-hour dispatch number; we have an elevator maintenance vendor on-call that can respond in a timely manner.
If you find yourself stuck in an elevator, push the emergency button. This will notify the elevator company as well as Facilities staff to the problem. You can call 911 as well, as Las Vegas Fire & Rescue generally can get to the building much more quickly than the elevator mechanic; the fire staff will be able to get you out of the elevator.
If you notice any elevator issues (other than being stuck) in any city facility, please email information on the elevator number and location, along with the observed issue, to the Facilities Management Services Center email group at FOService@LasVegasNevada.gov.
The Emerald Anniversary of Viva Las Voices
In September 2026, Viva Las Voices celebrates its 20th anniversary — a milestone symbolized by the emerald, representing growth, resilience and enduring value. The club was chartered in 2006 after a dedicated group of city of Las Vegas employees recognized the benefits Toastmasters could bring to the workplace. Many of the individuals who helped launch the club became well-known leaders within the organization, serving in management and executive roles and leaving a lasting impact on the city. Through their persistence and advocacy, Toastmasters became a city-approved training opportunity, with employee dues sponsored by the city. What began with 24 charter members quickly became a valuable resource for developing communication and leadership skills.
Over the past two decades, Viva Las Voices has weathered retirements, leadership transitions and the challenges of virtual meetings during the COVID pandemic. Through it all, dedicated members kept the club moving forward. Today, the club is thriving with 25 engaged members who continue to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills and support one another's growth. As Viva Las Voices celebrates 20 years of helping members find their voices, the future remains as bright as the emerald that symbolizes this remarkable milestone.
Curious about Toastmasters? The good news is that you don't have to give a speech on your first visit — we promise! Whether you're a seasoned presenter or someone whose palms sweat at the thought of speaking in front of a group, Viva Las Voices offers a supportive environment to learn, practice and grow. We invite you to stop by a meeting* and see why we've been helping city employees find their voices for the past 20 years.
*Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m.-noon in the City Hall first-floor training rooms.

What Do You Build?
Every day, city employees build something. Some of us build roads, programs, systems, neighborhoods or spaces. Others build relationships, trust, opportunities, solutions, knowledge or connections. The work may look different across departments and roles, but together it contributes to something bigger -- building community to make life better. That idea will be at the heart of this year’s Employee Values Conference.
|
Our theme, "Building Community To Make Life Better," invites us to think about community in more than one way. It is about the community we create within the city by strengthening relationships, building trust, collaborating across teams and better understanding one another. It is also about the community we serve, and how the work each of us does ultimately contributes to the lives of Las Vegas residents. But building community also starts with us.
Throughout our careers and our lives, we are constantly building, our skills, confidence, relationships, resilience, knowledge, sense of purpose and understanding of ourselves and others. We are building the kind of co-workers, leaders, family members and community members we want to become. Throughout the conference, we will connect these ideas to our city values (Kind, Committed and Smart) while exploring how they show up not only in the work we do, but in how we grow, lead, collaborate, serve and show up for others.
Before the conference begins, we want you to start with one question: What do you build?
Maybe you build confidence in others. Maybe you build safer streets, stronger teams, better processes, opportunities for residents, connections between people or solutions to difficult problems. Maybe you are building new skills, a career you are proud of, stronger relationships or a clearer sense of what matters most to you. Sometimes what we build is easy to see. Other times, the most important things we build are less tangible.
Help Us Build the Values Conference
If you have not already completed the Values Conference Interest Form, we want to hear from you. Your input will help us understand what employees want to learn, experience and explore at this year’s conference. The form is open through Sept. 14.
