Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Push-In Ceremony Sept. 23

LVFR Welcomes A New Ladder Truck To Station 4 At 9 A.M.

Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9 a.m., Mayor Shelley Berkley, Mayor Pro Tem Olivia Diaz, and Fire Chief Fernando Gray will provide remarks at Fire Station 4 before the push-in ceremony for a new ladder truck. The station is located at 421 S. 15th St. Chaplains will bless the emergency unit. Then, firefighters and willing community members will join to push the new truck into the bay. This event, a celebration of our community and its safety, is free and open to all. We welcome community members to join Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR) for this significant moment.

Ladder Truck 4, assigned to Fire Station 4, is a vital addition to the fleet and is dedicated to serving the residents of Ward 3, a vibrant and diverse area of Las Vegas. The addition of  Ladder Truck 4 will increase LVFR’s daily minimum staffing of fire suppression members from 180 to 184 personnel and strengthen the response capability for structure fires, high-rise incidents, and other complex emergencies.

The city of Las Vegas was awarded a FEMA Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant to support positions associated with staffing the new truck. The recruits who graduated Aug. 13, 2026, provide the additional staffing necessary to support the deployment of this additional unit.

The push-in ceremony, a deeply significant tradition in the fire service, has its origins in the 1800s when the limitations of horse-drawn fire apparatus necessitated a unique method of stationing. Firefighters would disconnect the horses and manually push the engine into the bay. This enduring tradition, which we proudly uphold today, is a profound mark of respect and honor as we introduce new apparatus into service.

On-site interviews will be available to media outlets.
