Carpenter
Mayor Pro Tem and Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz will break ground at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, on a new splash pad and other amenities for Gary Reese Freedom Park, located at 850 N. Mojave Road.
The $3.2 million improvement project will include a brand-new water play area as well as, two new sand volleyball courts, new restroom facilities and a new shade structure. The improvements are scheduled to be completed in early 2027.
“Gary Reese Freedom Park is a well-used regional recreational area, and I’m excited that we have the opportunity to improve the park for Ward 3 residents,” Councilwoman Diaz said. “I know that a new water play area will be very popular for families with small children during our hot summers.”
The project will be built on the west end of the park along Mojave between Harris and Washington avenues. The project contractor is Monument Construction and the design consultant is Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects.
Gary Reese Freedom Park already features baseball and softball fields, a skate park, playgrounds, picnic areas, disc golf course, a walking/jogging path and more. It is also home to the Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Swimming Pool.
