Businesses Remain Open As Lake Mead Boulevard Losee Road To Simmons Street Improvement Project Continues
Joint North Las Vegas/City Of Las Vegas Project To Continue Through 2026
The cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas are jointly improving Lake Mead Boulevard from Losee Road to Simmons Street with a complete streets project. The project will continue to the end of 2026, and businesses along Lake Mead remain open during work.
The contractor, Amrize, and the cities are committed to keeping access to businesses and neighborhoods along Lake Mead open during construction.
“Construction is a part of life in any city as we work to improve safety on our roadways, but we must remember that there are small businesses who need customers regardless,” Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong said. “I would encourage our residents to think about visiting these businesses as construction continues on Lake Mead.”
The project will focus on roadway and safety improvements including:
- Pavement replacement;
- New medians with landscaping and irrigation;
- New traffic signal/Intelligent Traffic System infrastructure;
- Replacement of water pipes;
- Sanitary sewer pipes rehabilitation;
- New signing and roadway striping, including addition of bike lanes;
- Upgrade of street lights to LED;
- Upgrades to existing pedestrian crossing as well as the creation of new pedestrian crossings at Lexington and Pink Rose streets; and
- New sidewalk ramps.
During construction, a minimum of one lane in each direction will be open at all times. Traffic restrictions on Lake Mead will be from Losee to Simmons as work progresses for the duration of the project. Motorists should expect delays. Suggested alternate routes include Carey and Owens/Vegas Drive. See the project area map here.
The $37.7 million project budget is funded by the Regional Transportation Commission’s Fuel Revenue Index Fund and the city of Las Vegas Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund.
