New Two-Story Expansion Completed

Mayor Shelley Berkley and Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz will cut the ribbon to open the new expansion of the Strong Start Academy Elementary School at the Tony Hsieh Education Center Friday, Dec. 12. The event will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the school, located at 310 S. Ninth St.

The new building will provide 10 additional classrooms and room for an additional 144 students, bringing the capacity of the school that serves students in grades K-5 to 360. Students at the school engage in dual-language education that supports and embraces the development of their home languages and cultures.

The charter school is operated by the Strong Start Academy, a 501(c)3 nonprofit started by the city of Las Vegas and now operated by an independent board. The contractor for the $6.35 million project is Builder’s United.
