New Flood Control Project Begins Aug. 11
Project Will Begin On Maryland Parkway South Of Charleston Boulevard
Work will begin Aug. 11, 2025, on Maryland Parkway south of Charleston Boulevard for a flood control project that will install storm drain infrastructure on Maryland Parkway from Charleston to Franklin Avenue and on Charleston Boulevard from Maryland Parkway to Commerce Street during the next two years. Work on phase 1 on Maryland will take approximately six months. See the phase 1 map. Project work on Charleston is expected to begin by the first week of September 2025.
In addition to installing large concrete box storm drain and associated collection facility upgrades, the project also will include relocating sewer lines and water supply lines, as well as replacing medians and installing pedestrian safety features and traffic signal infrastructure. See the project map. Construction is expected to continue into the third quarter of 2027.
Motorists can expect lane closures and delays during construction, but access for residents and businesses will be maintained. Sahara Avenue is the recommended alternate route for east/west traffic, and Eastern Avenue for north/south travel.
Harber Company, Inc. is the contractor. The city of Las Vegas is managing the project. The estimated cost of the work is $47.6 million, funded by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the room tax and the city of Las Vegas Sanitation Fund.
