One winner will be randomly drawn and announced in the August 15 newsletter. Stay tuned!
Rudy Aguirre
I’d like to recognize Rudy for his consistent leadership, positivity, and team-first attitude. He’s a stand-up guy who’s always ready to help whenever someone on the team needs support. As a key member of the production technicians crew, Rudy brings deep knowledge of the gear and stays open to learning from others’ techniques as well. He’s incredibly versatile, stepping into different roles as needed, and brings a positive, solution-oriented mindset even when challenges arise. Rudy’s the kind of teammate who makes the crew stronger, and working with him is always a good experience.
Octavio Mendoza and Kevin Mathis
I had the opportunity to meet Octavio and Kevin out at Floyd Park while delivering cookies in recognition of Park and Recreation professionals' month. Both were very grateful for the gesture. It was clear from our conversation that they truly enjoy their job and take great pride in their work. It was enlightening and uplifting to connect with team members who are so passionate about serving the community and genuinely enjoy working for the city.
Marja Bigas
July has been a very robust and complex month for Marja. From working with our concerned special events partners on the noise survey issued by Community Development to working closely with W3 and the English Hotel on the Cars in the Arts event, she maintains a professional and courteous demeanor with the public and her team. She's currently navigating the new Las Vegas Marathon with equity in mind and training her team of Facility and Events Coordinators on new spaces. She takes on additional tasks with ease and offers helpful solutions. Marja is exceptional and I'm grateful to work alongside her.
Kelly VanLandschoot
From Park User, Joe Whitaker: “Kelly” , unsure of her last name - Caucasian female with tattoos) at Floyd Lamb Park does an incredible job keeping the park clean and working well. It seems she does the work that most organizations would have to hire several people to do to get the job accomplished. She’s the only park employee I’ve seen pressure wash the trails and seating areas at the park. She’s a highly motivated and seems to be a value and integrity driven person. I’ve been going to the park since 1976 and going daily since 2017.. I’ve never witnessed anyone as friendly with such great work ethic. She interfaces well with people from racially diverse and socioeconomic backgrounds. I’ve witnessed her be professional and go the extra mile with the public and her coworkers. As a former supervisor with a government entity, I feel she would make an excellent supervisor. She leads by example and is very articulate.. The City of Las Vegas is very fortunate to have her as an employee….
Garth Ritchie
Garth is amazing!! How he maintained his professionalism and quality of work while taking on even more work during our time without staffing through end of April through July. Garth’s is a skilled, creative and innovative thinker. He inspires the rest of the team to be more motived and to use their skills to the best of their abilities. Garth’s a true superstar!
Nate Carlson, Michael Smith and John Pierce
The move to our new Civic Center offices was logistically challenging. Having these three take over the technological piece of the puzzle was incredibly helpful. They helped move staff from locations all across the city to the single location not only without complaint, but with flexibility and good attitudes. Having them provide the assistance and being able to arrive and just plug in my laptop was amazing. Thank you all!
Travis Rich and Brad Kofford
Travis and Brad assisted in the move to Civic Center by ensuring that the boxes for the moving company were delivered from and returned to Dula with the appropriate time for staff who were not located our primary pickup locations to pack and be ready for the move. This made it so much easier on those staff members. Thank you, Travis and Brad for providing such great service and helping the department in this way.
Tuwanda Locke
Ms. Tuwanda deserves heartfelt recognition for her incredible work ethic and unwavering passion for the arts. She’s the quiet force behind so much of what makes the West Las Vegas Arts Center run smoothly—always dependable, always going the extra mile, and always doing it with grace. Her dedication shows in everything she does—from the smallest details to the biggest projects—and it all radiates through her smile, her warmth, and her steady presence. She brings a mother’s love to every part of her work, offering care, kindness, and genuine heart to everyone around her. She may not seek the spotlight, but her impact is undeniable. Ms. Tuwanda is the kind of person who makes everything—and everyone—better just by being there.
Joaquin Aztorga and Rich Hall
I would like to give Kudos to Joaquin Aztorga and Rich Hall. While we were in the process of top dressing all our soccer fields, we faced some challenges with quotes that included extremely high shipping costs. Joaquin had a brilliant idea and suggested reaching out to the Streets Department to see if they could assist with transporting sand from our supplier near Apex, since they were already making trips in that area. Rich took the lead and coordinated with Streets, arranging for them to pick up the sand. Their initiative and teamwork saved our department thousands of dollars and made this project a great success. Fantastic job, Joaquin and Rich! Your resourcefulness and collaboration truly made a difference.
Alejandro Gomez Perez, Joaquin Aztorga, David Acosta, and Misael Arambula Luque
On 12/14 and 2/28, Admin received complaint emails about irrigation issues from a citizen who lives near Wildwood Park. On July 22, I received a copy of the letter the citizen sent to LVVWD. Alejandro evaluated the issue the same day I sent him the letter and fixed the issues that could be fixed immediately. With Joaquin, David and Misael's assistance, he upgraded the irrigation system by adding flow sensing capabilities and a dedicated master valve and adding Wildwood to irrigation central control as a flow manage site, giving him the ability to isolate the irrigation system remotely.
If you are reading this, you might say that this team is just doing their jobs, and you would be right. However, they are doing their jobs at a high level and helping me respond to a citizen who has taken the time to reach out to us to report issues that need to be addressed. I am always grateful to staff who handle issues quickly and efficiently and communicate the resolution to me so I can get back to the citizen. I believe the way this issue was handled checked all three boxes for our city's core values - kind, committed and smart. Thank you!!!
