Scam Alert
Please be on the alert for potential scams that target city employees. Over the weekend, a scammer pretended to be a member of the city’s senior management team asking employees for help purchasing gift cards. The scammer also only wanted to communicate by text.
As a reminder, a member of the management team would not make a random request like this. Should you receive a similar solicitation, please use the Inbox Analysis Tool (located in the top toolbar, on the right with a little magnifying glass) to forward suspicious or spam emails to the Innovation and Technology (IT) Department for review. This will allow them to remove emails of this type from all email boxes immediately. Should you have questions, please email the "IT Security and Compliance" email group.

City Hall Parking Garage New EV Chargers Are Operational
Fourteen new electric vehicle (EV) chargers are now operational on the first floor of the 500 S. Main St. parking garage. Soon they will be equipped with longer charging cables so vehicles will not need to back into the stalls. The work to add those longer cables is expected in the near future. If you are interested in charging your EV (for a fee) in the garage, download the instructions in advance here.
The old chargers from the 500 S. Main location that are still functional will be moved to the City Parkway and Promenade garages, providing greater accessibility for EV drivers.

The city’s thematic goal for 2025 is:
Through December 2025, the city will continue to focus on employee wellness by providing opportunities to enhance the physical, emotional and financial well-being of all staff. This week we focus on financial wellness.
Financial Wellness: It’s About More Than Just Numbers
|
When we think about money, it's easy to focus on the numbers — budgeting, saving, paying off debt, and maybe investing a little. But financial wellness goes way beyond spreadsheets and calculators. It’s about feeling confident and in control of your financial life, both now and in the future.
At a basic level, financial wellness starts with understanding how much money you earn, what you spend and how you manage that gap. Budgeting is a powerful tool for this. Even a simple budget can help you track your income, stay on top of your bills, and make room for savings or emergencies. Sites like Consumer.gov and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offer great starter guides if you’re new to budgeting. Our own clvdeferredcomp.com site offers a great “basics on budgeting” and discusses the 50/30/20 rule.
But being financially well isn’t just about dollars and cents. It’s also about your relationship with money — how it makes you feel and how you prioritize your spending. We all define “needs” and “wants” differently, and that’s okay. For example, a family with kids might prioritize a vacation because it creates lasting memories, even if that money could go toward something more “practical” like a home repair. This is often referred to as “conscious spending” — choosing to spend more on things that truly matter to you while cutting costs on things that don’t.
There’s also a lot of emotion wrapped up in our finances. Stress, guilt, anxiety and even shame can all show up when we think about money. A recent study by the American Psychological Association found that money remains a top source of stress for many Americans. Part of financial wellness is about managing how you feel about money as well — feeling okay with where you are and making choices that support your overall well-being.
In the end, financial wellness isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being intentional. It’s about making decisions — whether that’s saving, investing, spending, or splurging —that reflect your values, your life stage and your goals. So go ahead, budget wisely, learn the basics of economics, tackle your debt — but don’t forget to check in with how money makes you feel, and what it really means to you.
Do you want to find out how YOU feel about money while still learning the basics of economics and budgeting? Enroll in one of our wellness offerings on Money Management for Financial Wellness, where participants review tips on creating healthy money habits that can create confidence and improve financial wellness. Attendees receive a personal financial worksheet and a look at their “financial IQ.”
