Planning On Using The New EV Chargers At City Hall Garage?
Planning on using the new electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the City Hall Parking Garage at 500 S. Main St.? Please review the guide to charging electric vehicles
when using the new charging equipment. The city has retained SWTCH as the service provider for these new charging stations.
Charging using the SWTCH network is easy. First you will need to download the SWTCH app and create an account. The app is available at no cost on both the Apple Store and Google Play. If you choose not to use the app, you can access the system via the web browser on your phone at charge.swtchenergy.com or via the QR code displayed on each charger. Support is always available should you have any issues with the SWTCH app, or while charging.
Customer Support Representatives always are accessible at 1-844-798-2438. An email address support@swtchenergy.com also is provided for non-urgent questions, and inquiries can be made via the app. For detailed instructions on how to use the app or the charging equipment, please review the guide available here.
Charging vehicles in the EV stalls located in the City Hall Parking Garage are no longer reserved/assigned to a specific individual and are no longer free to use. Additionally, once a vehicle has reached maximum charge status, the charging app will send a notification via text to remove the vehicle from the EV-charging parking stall. A 30-minute grace period is provided in order to afford you time to relocate the vehicle to your assigned space or open space.
EV Charging Fee Schedule
$1.25 per hour - Initial charging session
$6 per hour - Overstay past the grace period
Parking Services has contacted employees who currently have an assigned reserved parking space which contains an EV charger. These employees have been provided with an alternate reserved space within the parking structure. Parking Services will continue to work towards the replacement and expansion of available EV smart chargers for the Symphony Park garages as well as the Arts District Parking Garage when it is built. Questions? Contact Parking Services at ext. 4700.
Only Safe & Sane Fireworks Are Legally Sold In The City, And Only June 28-July 4
`You Light It, We Write It’ Effort to be Active Over July 4 Holiday
The only type of consumer fireworks allowed in Clark County and the local cities, including the city of Las Vegas, are those labeled “safe and sane” that have been tested and approved by area fire departments for sale at licensed stands for one week each year from June 28 through July 4. All fireworks, including “safe and sane” ones, are a concern during the spring and summer months when the threat of wildland fire is highest in Southern Nevada. Neighborhood concerns about noise, litter, and the use of illegal fireworks purchased outside the Las Vegas valley are common. No fireworks of any kind are allowed at Clark County Wetlands Park and other local parks, or on public lands in the region including Mount Charleston, Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon.
As residents come and go from the Las Vegas valley, we ask you not to buy illegal fireworks sold by vendors outside our area for use here. The use of illegal fireworks in our community is a problem that we need the community’s help to solve. Over the July 4 holiday, local nonprofit groups are allowed to sell approved fireworks at licensed and inspected fireworks stands for fundraising purposes. Fireworks sold at the stands have been tested by fire departments to ensure they don’t leak, burn too hot or project too high in the sky. “Safe and sane” fireworks generally include sparklers and fireworks that keep to a small, circular area on the ground and don’t explode in the air. Illegal fireworks include firecrackers, Roman candles, and sky rockets – anything made of highly combustible materials. Any fireworks purchased from other jurisdictions, including those labeled “safe and sane,” are likely to be illegal because they have not been tested and approved to be sold at local stands during the authorized sales period. This includes fireworks sold by vendors in Pahrump, Amargosa Valley, the Moapa Band of Paiutes or neighboring states.
The inter-agency “You Light It, We Write It” campaign to educate the public about what’s allowed and not allowed – and the penalties if caught using illegal fireworks – will be active over the July 4 holiday. Information about the initiative is available at www.YouLightItWeWriteIt.Vegas. As part of the effort, residents are urged not to call 911 to report illegal fireworks, but keep 911 free for life-threatening emergencies. Instead, the public is asked to report location complaints about illegal fireworks over the holiday online at www.IspyFireworks.com. The information is used for data collection purposes and to plan future law enforcement actions. Offenders caught using illegal fireworks in unincorporated County areas and the city of Las Vegas face a minimum fine of $500. Legislation approved in 2021 by the Nevada State Legislature allows for fines of up to $10,000 for large amounts of illegal fireworks found within the community.
Food Truck Thursday July 3
In the mood for good food? Food Truck Thursdays offers delicious options located on Clark Avenue in front of Municipal Court. Food trucks rotate every other Thursday to add variety for lunch options for sale between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This week’s Food Truck Thursday event will feature Mikaelas and Maria's Kitchen. Food trucks are subject to change without notice.
DMV Kiosk Now In Municipal Court Lobby
A Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) kiosk is located now in the Municipal Court Lobby. Members of the public will have to go through security to access the kiosk. Lobby hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, closed holidays. When residents get a citation for expired vehicle registration, they can renew at the kiosk and bring the proof of correction to receive a reduction of their fine. If renewed within 14 days of the citation, the case can be dismissed. If renewed after the 14 days from the citation, the fine may be reduced to $93.
A self-service DMV kiosk offers a fast and easy way to renew vehicle registration for residents with a Nevada-registered vehicle. It's a machine with touch-screen technology that looks similar to an ATM. Simply scan your renewal postcard or type in your license plate number, pay your taxes and fees via credit card or debit card, and your registration and license plate decal prints immediately. You also can get a duplicate registration or get a driver history printout (if you have a Nevada driver's license). No fee for credit card use (Mastercard, Visa or Discover), but kiosks do charge a $4 processing fee for registration renewals and duplicates, and $1.25 for all other transactions. Be sure to review the Frequently Asked Questions to be sure you bring everything you need.
Are You Up To Date On Your Defensive Driving Training?
Previously, employees could check their current training status through Skillsoft; however, that option is no longer available due to the platform's deactivation. In the future, this functionality will be available through NeoGov Learn, but it is not yet active. In the meantime, if you are unsure whether you have completed the Defensive Driving course in the past three years, contact Jonathan Campbell directly at jocampbell@lasvegasnevada.gov, and he can advise your status.
- Defensive Driving training is required every three years for employees who operate city-owned vehicles.
- Classes are held at the Human Resources building at 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North every Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. You can sign up here.
- The only thing you need to bring to class is a valid driver’s license.
- There is plenty of parking on the south side of the building.
- The class is taught by Jonathan Campbell. If you have any questions regarding the class, reach out to him directly at jocampbell@lasvegasnevada.gov.
- We do not require pre-approval for signup. However, employees are urged to clear it with their supervisors before signing up.
- If an employee does not operate city vehicles, the class is optional as a city employee benefit.
- You are urged to bring beverages/snacks/lunch on class day. Breaks are provided during class, but there aren’t many food options in the general vicinity to get refreshments within the allotted break time.
NeoGov Learn Access Delayed
Access to "NeoGov Learn," our compliance training, learning and development software, currently is delayed. Our Human Resources/IT team is actively working to resolve the issue. We understand that some required training may appear past due during this time. Please don't worry; these delays will be taken into consideration once access is established and training assignments are available again. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. An update will be provided once the system is fully operational.
