Northwest Fiber-optic Communications & ITS Improvements Project Starts March 31
Roadside Work On Grand Teton Drive/El Capitan Way/Buffalo Drive/Tenaya Way Will Cause Lane Restrictions For Next Six Months
The Northwest Area Fiber-optic Communications and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Improvement Phase 2 project is scheduled to begin March 31, 2025. There will be conduit and wiring installation work in the gutters and/or roadside shoulders on Grand Teton Drive between El Capitan Way and Buffalo Drive, on Buffalo from Grand Teton to Elkhorn Road, on Tenaya Way from Farm Road to Elkhorn, and on Elkhorn from Tenaya to Grand Montecito Parkway. At least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times during the work. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for traveling in the area.
Work will begin first on Elkhorn and will be done in four phases. (See map.) The entire project is expected to last six months and improve the monitoring and management of traffic conditions in the vicinity of the Centennial Bowl. Cimarron Road and Rainbow Boulevard are recommended alternate north/south routes; Racel Street and Farm Road are recommended east/west alternate routes.
Project work is scheduled Monday-Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work will not take place adjacent to schools during school hours. Project work on Buffalo will not take place at the same time as work on Tenaya; work on Elkhorn will not take place at the same time as work on Grand Teton.
Las Vegas Electric is the contractor. The $3+ million project budget is provided by federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program funds and Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada funds.
Those with questions or concerns regarding the project may call 702.357.2092.
