City Of Las Vegas Traffic Safety Program Receives National Recognition
Roadway And Traffic Safety Initiative Part Of National Vision Zero Campaign
The city of Las Vegas Vision Zero initiative has officially been recognized by the national Vision Zero Network as one of 69 cities across the country working to make roadways safer. The city’s initiative aims to develop strategies to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries on city of Las Vegas roadways by 2050.
Vision Zero is a collaborative effort, and the city of Las Vegas has already held several meetings with local stakeholders, including law enforcement, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, community safety groups, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
Vision Zero is a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all. First implemented in Sweden in the 1990s, this initiative has been implemented across the United States, with a goal of stopping the more than 40,000 traffic deaths a year in this country and millions more injury crashes.
