Organizational Development & Training Team Improve With SmartLab Support
The Organizational Development & Training (ODT) team is one of the latest teams to utilize SmartLab’s services to help improve their function and efficiency. The ODT team has grown rapidly over the last year in both size and scope as they expand their health and wellness offerings and career development support for city staff. This has been a boon to our organization, but also resulted in some growing pains and challenges as the team navigated these changes. They reached out to SmartLab to facilitate an exercise that helped the team to clarify their roles and expectations, which improved their efficiency and overall teamwork.
“I found the exercise to be very helpful in streamlining our processes,” says ODT Manager Chrystal Morris Harry, who recommends SmartLab’s work for other teams who are working on improving their internal structures. To request SmartLab facilitators help with your next project, contact SmartLabAdmin@lasvegasnevada.gov.

The city’s thematic goal this year is focused on the well-being of our employees — physically, emotionally and financially. This week our focus is on healthy eating.
Healthy Eating Through the Holidays
The holiday season is a time for joy, celebration, and indulgence, often centered around food. It’s tempting to dive head first into festive treats and hearty meals, and maintaining healthy eating habits doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun. With a mindful approach, you can enjoy the best of the season while taking care of your well-being.
One of the simplest ways to stay on track is to plan ahead. Eating a small, balanced snack with protein and fiber before heading to holiday gatherings can help curb excessive hunger, making it easier to make thoughtful food choices. Once you’re at the event, focus on filling your plate with smaller portions of the dishes you love most. This allows you to savor a variety of flavors without feeling overstuffed.
When building your plate, prioritize nutrient-dense options. Seasonal produce like roasted Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes and pomegranate seeds add both vibrant color and essential nutrients to your meal. These can be complemented by lean proteins and whole grains for a satisfying, balanced holiday feast. At the same time, it’s perfectly okay to indulge in treats — just choose your favorites and enjoy them mindfully, savoring each bite to fully appreciate the flavors.
Staying hydrated is another key element of healthy eating during the holidays. With the abundance of sugary drinks and cocktails, it’s easy to forget to drink water. Keeping a glass of water nearby not only supports your overall health but can also prevent dehydration, which is sometimes mistaken for hunger.
Balancing indulgence with activity is also important. Whether it’s a walk after dinner, participating in family games, or trying a winter sport, incorporating movement into your holiday routine helps maintain energy and keeps you feeling your best. Just as vital, though, is practicing self-compassion. If you find yourself over-indulging, let go of guilt and focus on making healthier choices at your next meal.
The holidays are about enjoyment and connection, not perfection. By making intentional food choices and staying active, you can embrace the season’s delights while feeling good about your health. This balanced approach will leave you refreshed and ready to take on the New Year with energy and optimism.
Here’s to a happy and healthy holiday season!
