"Twelfth Night" is a 70-minute comedic play that explores themes of love, mistaken identity and the folly of ambition. Set in the fictional kingdom of Illyria, it follows the romantic entanglements of characters like Viola, who disguises herself as a man, and Orsino, who is in love with a countess. The play's humorous and often bittersweet plot twists showcase Shakespeare's skill in blending comedy with deeper reflections on human nature. The show is directed by Cassandra Krupp.
Mia Wikler, age 13 and a student at Sig Rogich Middle School, will play the role of Viola; this is the first time she will be the lead character in a show. Jai McDonald, 16, a three-year Rainbow Company veteran, will play Orsino. Anjeal Moten, 17, a student at Las Vegas High School, will fill the role of Olivia. Dante del Giudice, a homeschooled 14-year-old with four years of theatre experience with Rainbow Company, will play Malvolio.
This is Krupp’s fourth season with Rainbow Company, previously directing productions of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Much Ado About Nothing.” She has been involved in theatre since age 5, first participating in the children’s theatre company her mother began and operated for 20 years.
The core of the Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is its ensemble of 40 dedicated students, ages 10 to 18, selected yearly by open audition. The ensemble members work in all aspects of each production – costumes, makeup, sets, lights, sound and backstage crew – under the tutelage of professional directors and designers.
