City Of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman & Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen Celebrate Completion Of New Wellness Way Mural
Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1 P.M., At 1550 Wellness Way
News media are invited to join Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen, UNLV representatives and Medical District residents and staff Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the new Wellness Way 343-foot-long wall mural, “Harmony in Bloom.” Designed and completed by artists Ross Takahashi and Amy Sol, the mural is located across the street from the Bearden Family Paseo at 1550 Wellness Way, between Shadow Lane and Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard, which is where everyone is invited to gather. Parking is available at the UNLV Shadow Lane Campus C Lot, on the south side of the mural. (See map.)
Painting of the mural began Nov. 6, 2023, and was completed Dec. 9, 2023. The mural height ranges from 36 inches to 58 inches on the block-long, L-shaped, step-down wall. The artists were paid $33,750 for the work with money from the city of Las Vegas Ward 1 Capital Improvement Project Fund. UNLV has contracted with the city to allow the mural to be painted on its wall along Wellness Way. Community feedback asking for a space to help people feel calm and safe helped guide the design. The artists were selected by an independent evaluation panel comprised of project stakeholders. (See mural design.) The mural is the first of five public artworks planned for the Las Vegas Medical District.
The painters are both local contemporary artists. Amy Sol is a painter and sculptor. Ross Takahashi is a sculptor and award-winning art educator.
