What Will Happen To My Sick Leave / Vacation Leave Balance?
The year-end vacation carry over happens on Dec. 23 this year for everyone. Any balance over your vacation/TILO cap at the end of the day Saturday, Dec. 23, will be forfeited.
All vacation hours over your cap will be gone Dec. 24. Planning to use vacation the week between Christmas and New Year’s will not reduce your vacation balance for the 2023 year.
If you check on Oracle at that time for your sick/vacation leave balances, you may see "0" listed. Whatever you had left below the cap is still there and may be used, it's just not going to show up until the system re-sets for the new year.
Be Careful Crossing
Be sure to take extra care when crossing streets, especially near City Hall in the downtown. Police report many recent pedestrian deaths.
Employees have reported close calls when crossing Main Street near City Hall. As a result, the Department of Public Safety is increasing its presence to encourage drivers and pedestrians to use extra caution and to follow the traffic laws. With the construction of the Civic Plaza in full swing, some drivers may be distracted by the work and not pay full attention to the roadway. Similarly, pedestrians should obey the crossing signals and make sure drivers see them before crossing.
Stay alert and use good judgment when crossing an intersection or when behind the wheel. If you are concerned for your safety now that it is dark so early, dial ext. 6444 and request a deputy city marshal accompany you to your vehicle.
