Clark Avenue Between Main And First Streets To Close As Construction Begins On New Civic Plaza

One Block Of Clark Will Be Closed Permanently

Beginning Monday, March 20, the block of Clark Avenue between Main and First streets in front of City Hall will close permanently as the new Civic Plaza phase one construction project gets underway.

Starting Monday, Clark will be barricaded between First and Main and there will be no through traffic. First Street will also be barricaded, only allowing one way northbound traffic. As construction gets underway, city traffic engineers will monitor the surrounding streets and traffic to determine if further adjustments are necessary.

Alternative north/south routes include Main Street and Casino Center Boulevard, while alternative east/west routes include Bonneville and Bridger avenues. In addition, the Downtown Loop stop on Main Street south of City Hall will be closed during construction.

The block on Clark between Main and First will permanently close to become part of the plaza that will link City Hall to the new development. The new Civic Plaza will be located in the block that is directly south of City Hall. When complete, it will include a new public plaza, a public art installation, government office buildings and space for retail opportunities.

Phase one of construction, which includes the new plaza, is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2024.
