Swimming: We need LOTS of swimmers. While speed is a factor, having lots of people help finish races is a bigger factor! Everyone in each age group can only swim four events and there are six individual events and two relays, so we need more than one person for both male and female and in each age group! Events include 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. Just let Daniel Malloy (dmalloy@lasvegasnevada.gov) know your age, T-shirt size and what events you’d like to swim. You can swim up to four events. Daniel can send you a swim work out or even times to beat from last year’s Corporate Challenge! The event will be Sunday, April 2, at Municipal Pool starting at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until noon. Practice time is available at Municipal Pool and Pavilion Center Pool.
Walk Race: The event is 4K (2.4 miles) of walking as quickly as you can -- no running or jogging is permitted. This is an individual event and each walker has the ability to score points for Team City. You don't need to be an extreme athlete to participate. Walkers are needed for each of 10 adult age groups. The event is Thursday, April 20, at Kellogg Zaher Soccer Complex. Contact Christine Wittwer to sign up and be there no later than 4:45 p.m. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Horseshoes: Two women are needed to participate Saturday, April 29, at 8 a.m. Contact event captain Marcus Diaz.
Charity Challenge: If you volunteer at agencies or programs you can help Team Vegas gain bonus points. Please contact Linda Lagoy for more information on how to participate in the Charity Challenge.

This hands-on training event is open to all city employees and will teach participants how to use a portable fire extinguisher. Participants should wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toe shoes. Non-toxic fire extinguishing agents will be used. COVID Cases Set New March Record
For the week ending March 13, 2023, we have 8 new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in the employee population. This compares to 11 new cases last week. This time, four departments had at least one employee test positive over the last seven days. There have been more cases reported in March 2023 than in March 2022 and March 2021. Since the pandemic started, the total number of positive cases reported among the city workforce is now 1,729.
If you are feeling sick, please stay home. With COVID still in the workplace, we want to make sure everyone knows when to get tested and what to do if you test positive. It remains vital that if you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you stay home and consult your health care provider. Should you test positive for the coronavirus, please notify your supervisor right away. If you have any questions, please contact Human Resources.
Also this important reminder for supervisors, managers, deputy directors and directors -- if employees are coming to work sick, you, as their supervisor, do have the ability to send people home (even if it is not COVID), as we want to protect all employees from illnesses.
In addition, updated COVID-19 vaccines boosters are now available at Southern Nevada Health District clinic locations. At this time, if someone is seeking a booster dose, the individual should visit the clinic as a walk-in rather than making an appointment. The CDC still recommends wearing masks and increasing space and distance as needed.
To view testing and vaccination locations, visit https://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org.
