Oct. 1 Remembered
Resources
With the fifth anniversary of the October 1 shooting so close, we know a lot of painful memories are relived for so many of us. One of our fellow city employees, Cameron Robinson, was among those who died that terrible night. As a means to help employees heal and confront the trauma so many have encountered, the Clark County Fire Department put together a reminder that the Resiliency Center is still a valuable community resource. In addition, the Metro Police Department also put out a message to the employees presented by a licensed mental health therapist. While the messages are aimed primarily at first responders, we wanted to share them because they contain valuable information for everyone still dealing with the aftermath of October 1, 2017.
Ceremony The Saturday, Oct. 1, remembrance ceremony at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden, located at 1015 S. Casino Center Blvd., will take place at 10:05 p.m. The ceremony will include the reading of the names of the 58 victims of the 2017 shooting tragedy. A bell will toll and a candle will be lit in remembrance for each person we lost as a result of the attack at the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert.
We will livestream the ceremony on our Facebook and Twitter pages and at www.kclv.tv/live. It will also be broadcast live on KCLV channel 2 (1002 in HD), the city’s government access television station.

Thematic Goal Update
Earlier this year, the City Manager’s Office announced our new thematic goal:
“By December 2022, the city will enhance employee development opportunities to foster the growth of city employees.”
Human Resources Director Vince Zamora and Human Resources Administrator Chrystal Harry provide an update on this goal.
Signature Block
There have been questions since last week about the email signature block for city employees. Employees are to use the signature block for consistency, to reinforce our city brand and to assure the person getting the email that it’s coming from an official city employee.
As far as using the pronouns next to your name, that is up to your personal preference. As part of the city’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiative (DEI), we encourage employees to consider using the pronouns. The city of Las Vegas is respectful of all persons regardless of race, gender, religious affiliation or sex. In an effort to provide a safe and inclusive environment to all employees, we now offer the use of pronouns as an option for the official city email template. Pronoun examples are she/her/hers, he/him/his, they/them/theirs. The use of pronouns is voluntary and up to the individual employee. For more on the use of pronouns in the workplace please see the recommendations given by the Human Rights Campaign.
A document titled Email Signature Block is linked below as well as on the Resources Page under the Office of Communications on the employee portal https://emp.lasvegasnevada.gov/Departments/Communications. It is a Word document, so all you have to do is open it, then copy and paste the template into your Outlook signature block. There are instructions in the document, as well as an example.
In addition, the approved city seals, brand guide and branded Powerpoint templates also are all on the employee portal under Communications Resources. Of course, if anyone needs help on any of this, a member of the Public Affairs team in the Office of Communications can assist you.
John Bear Remembered
A memorial for former city employee John Bear will take place on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd. As we mentioned previously in the Weekly Update, John passed away on Sept. 11. He had worked for the city for five years as a special assistant to council, serving the Ward 2 Office.
