Former Councilman Steve Ross And Council Staffer John Bear
We have some sad news to share.
Former City Councilman Steve Ross passed away last week. He was the Ward 6 councilman from 2005 to 2017 and also served as mayor pro tem. His memorial service will be next Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Read his obituary.
Former council staffer John Bear also passed away recently. John worked for the Ward 2 office when Councilman Beers was here. We will pass along his obituary, information about services, etc. when we hear them.
We know the families will appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Updated Signature Blocks To Include Pronouns
We have updated the email signature block template for city employees to include pronouns. Please be sure to use the new signature block when sending email correspondence to reinforce our city brand as well as our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
A document titled Email Signature Block is linked below as well as on the Resources Page under the Office of Communications on the employee portal https://emp.lasvegasnevada.gov/Departments/Communications. It is a Word document, so all you have to do is open it, then copy and paste the template into your Outlook signature block. There are instructions in the document, as well as an example.
In addition, the approved city seals, brand guide and branded Powerpoint templates also are all on the employee portal under Communications Resources. Of course, if anyone needs help on any of this, a member of the Public Affairs team in the Office of Communications can assist you.

Ready To Be Part Of The Facilitator Team?
Sign Up Now To Take The Training In October
The Technology of Participation (ToP)® Group Facilitation Methods course teaches group facilitators how to effectively lead their teams. ToP provides methods that:
- Recognize and honor contributions of all meeting participants.
- Let a group deal with more data in less time.
- Pool individual contributions into larger, more informative patterns.
- Welcome diverse thinking while minimizing polarization and conflict.
The first city facilitators were certified in 2013, followed by a second group in 2016. We have had a lot of success using these respectful, collaborative methods both with city staff and in the community.
"Group Facilitation Methods" class will be held 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 24-25 in City Hall first-floor Training Rooms 3-4.
"Group Facilitation Methods Refresher" for previously certified 2013/2016 facilitators only will be held 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 26 in City Hall first-floor Training Rooms 3-4.
Classes are capped at 20 participants. Employees who register for either class will be asked to have the availability to facilitate or co-facilitate at least four facilitations over a two-year period on behalf of the Organizational Development and Training Division.
