 City Of Las Vegas Recruiting For AmeriCorps And
AmeriCorps VISTA Program Positions

66 Part-Time, 10 Full-Time Adult Positions For Nine Or 12 Months

 

          The city of Las Vegas is recruiting 76 AmeriCorps members. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Email bcatlin@lasvegasnevada.gov for more information and to apply.

 

AmeriCorps Positions

          Sixty-six of the positions are for the AmeriCorps program for part-time commitments of service in nine-month and 12-month terms. These AmeriCorps members will provide services to the community in the following projects:

  • The Batteries Included/NextGen youth leadership program serving middle and high school teens in Las Vegas, designed to ensure teens reach their greatest potential by providing out-of-school educational and life skills activities.
  • The Community Navigator Program that connects students, families and community members to resources and service providers in some of Las Vegas’ highest-need communities.
  • The Strong Future Technology program, which provides opportunities to engage youth and young adults ages 16-24 to gain skills in technology to prepare them for in-demand tech careers.
  • ReInvent Schools, which focuses on improving academic excellence for every child by creating a strong collective culture among students, families, and educators to ensure academic achievement and lifelong success.
  • Strong Start GO, which offers children and families free high-quality, early-education programming, including family engagement workshops and activities.
  • Cultural Affairs Ambassadors, who will provide cultural programming, literature-focused residencies, theatre performances and summer camps at schools and community centers.
  • Youth Fire Prevention Assistants who will provide education to youth about fire safety, fire survival and the serious legal, financial and social costs of setting fires.

 

Benefits to AmeriCorps Participants

  • A stipend of up to $14,560 for the 12-month term ($560 bi-weekly);
  • An education award of up to $4,545.50;
  • Eligibility for federal student loan forbearance or deferment;

AmeriCorps VISTA Positions

          The city of Las Vegas is also recruiting for 10 positions for the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program for a 12-month, full-time commitment of service. Eligible candidates will be at least 18 years of age with a college degree or some college education, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

 

          Founded in 1965, VISTA is an anti-poverty program designed to provide needed resources to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to increase their capacity to lift communities out of poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members will provide services to the community, serving in the following projects:

  • Educational Support
  • Social Equity / Neighborhood Redevelopment
  • Workforce Development
  • Veteran Services
  • Environmental Stewardship

Benefits to AmeriCorps VISTA Participants

  • A stipend of $17,600 for the 12-month term ($676.92 bi-weekly);
  • An education award of $6,495 or end-of-year stipend award of $1,800;
  • Eligibility for federal student loan forbearance or deferment;
  • Professional development and training opportunities; and
  • The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families.
