Registration Open For New Strong Start Academy Elementary School At The Tony Hsieh Education Center
Those Interested In New Public Charter School Should Complete Online Form
Registration for the new Strong Start Academy Elementary School at The Tony Hsieh Education Center, located at 310 S. Ninth St., is now available at https://www.clvstrongstartes.org/. Those parents with children entering kindergarten, first or second grade should fill out the application form that is available now for the 2022/23 school year.
The school is set to open Aug. 8, 2022, offering kindergarten through second grade, with a focus on bilingual education in English and Spanish.
The nonprofit was granted a charter by the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority. The school is overseen by a nonprofit board designated by the Las Vegas City Council, and the city of Las Vegas is a fiscal partner assisting with startup needs as the school transitions to its own entity.
“This new school will expand innovative educational opportunities for elementary students in our community," Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said. “It will create an exceptional learning environment that will impact this community in the years to come.”
The school plans to add one grade level each year until it offers a kindergarten through fifth grade program. The student-to-teacher ratio will be 20:1 for all grade levels throughout the charter term (six years).
With three classes at each grade level, year one of the school will have 180 students enrolled. Once the school has fully expanded to offer kindergarten through fifth grade, it will have a capacity of 360 students.
The educational model of the school is a dual-language immersion, bilingual education in English and Spanish. All students are expected to participate
The Strong Start Academy Elementary School at The Tony Hsieh Education Center will offer an equitable, high-quality and innovative educational school model. The communities that the school aims to serve are traditionally and significantly underserved populations with students attending one-star and two-star schools.
