City Of Las Vegas To Unveil Design Of New Civic Plaza Development And Present Mayor’s Urban Design Awards

Civic Plaza To Create New Gathering Space in Downtown Las Vegas

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz will unveil the design of the new Civic Plaza following the presentation of the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards Wednesday, May 11, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 495 S. Main St.

Civic Plaza is a new development that will include new city offices as well as a large plaza for gatherings and events in the heart of downtown. The project is being designed by LGA Architecture and renderings of the development will be revealed. The project will encompass an entire city block bordered by Main Street, Clark Avenue, First Street and Bonneville Avenue.

Prior to the Civic Plaza announcement, Mayor Goodman will present the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards. These awards honor projects that foster the city’s commitment to sustainability and livability. The awards recognize projects that cultivate walkways and streets that are shared public spaces, promote safety, conserve resources, preserve historic buildings and places, seamlessly link to their surroundings and are pedestrian friendly.

The categories include Building and Environment, Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse, Public Art, and Public Places. This year, a special Visionary Design Award will also be presented by Mayor Goodman.
