Two-Alarm Fire Damages Vacant Building Downtown

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

Firefighters from Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments responded to a vacant retail/commercial building late Sunday morning.

Fire dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 10:24 a.m. Sunday, April 24, that there was smoke coming from a vacant building downtown in the arts district at 300 E. Charleston Boulevard.

When firefighters arrived smoke was showing from the roof of the large two-story building.

Firefighters entered the building and found a small fire on the first floor and quickly extinguished it.  But when they went to see if the fire spread, they found fire in the void space between the first and second floors and in the attic running across the building.  A second alarm was then requested for additional personnel.

Approximately 65 fire personnel were on scene with 25 fire units.  The fire was mostly out in less than 30 minutes.

Fire investigators have the fire listed as under investigation.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
