Las Vegas City Council Ratifies Steve Ford As Parks And Recreation Director

Parks, Outdoor Spaces and Leisure Programing Have Long Been A Priority In The City

At today’s meeting, the Las Vegas City Council unanimously ratified Steve Ford as the city’s new Parks and Recreation director. Ford, who has been with the city since 1997, was selected for the director position by City Manager Jorge Cervantes.

Most recently, Ford had served as the acting director of Parks and Recreation, and as the city engineer. During his short tenure with Parks and Recreation, Ford has overseen more than 20 capital improvement projects, advocated for competitive rates for hard-to-fill hourly positions and balanced the department’s budget.

Prior to serving as city engineer, Ford spent 23 years in the Departments of Public Works and Operations and Maintenance, where he designed major city infrastructure projects and oversaw streets, facilities and parks maintenance.

Before joining the city, Ford was a member of the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves for 23 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the Air Force Institute of Technology.
