Vacant Building Fire On Paradise Road Thursday Morning, Dec. 2
Fire Totally Destroyed Building
Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to a vacant building fire on Paradise Road early Thursday morning, Dec. 2. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
Fire dispatchers received numerous 9-1-1 calls at 6:19 a.m. Dec. 2 that a large vacant building was on fire at 2127 Paradise Road. When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy fire and smoke were showing from the two-story, concrete-block building. Firefighters knew that there was a previous fire in the building in May that might have affected the structural integrity of the building. Because the fire was so advanced on arrival, it was decided that firefighters would not enter the building because of the possibility of building collapse. Shortly after firefighters arrived, sections of the roof began to collapse.
Because the fire had to be fought from the exterior, it took longer to knockdown the bulk of the fire. The size of the building, and the amount of deep-seated burning material inside that firefighters cannot get to directly, extended the time required to put out the fire. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene most of the day, pouring water on the remains of the building until it is completely out. The building is totally destroyed as a result of the two fires.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Traffic on Paradise Road may be restricted from East St. Louis Avenue to East Sahara Avenue during the day, while fire units and personnel remain on scene.
