Saturday, Dec. 4

Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear, Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II and other officials will dedicate the new Historic Westside Legacy Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. The new park is located at 1600 Mount Mariah Drive.

The park is a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Clark County, and is a tribute to the many trailblazers who have led the Historic Westside through the years. The park incorporates unique elements, including the stories of the 36 leaders chosen by a community panel.

“This is a truly beautiful park that brings the history of West Las Vegas to the forefront,” Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said. “Legacy Park will serve the community as an inviting gathering place and also a place of education where the residents and founders of the Historic Westside are being recognized.”

“The city and Clark County worked together to make this park a reality and it is my honor to help recognize and celebrate the great community leaders who will be memorialized in the Historic Westside Legacy Park,” County Commissioner William McCurdy II said. “I encourage everyone to visit the park and learn about the trailblazers and leaders whose shoulders we all stand upon.”

“I am delighted to have a part in memorializing these iconic leaders at the Historic Westside Legacy Park,” Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear said. “I look forward to being able to stroll through this park soon, to experience the history of the Westside and remember all who have paved the way for future generations in the community.”

The park includes a timeline of the Historic Westside and an interpretive walking trail. It also includes public artwork and the stories of the Westside, along with trees, landscaping and a playground.
